MR. I. B. CARMICHAEL PASSED AWAY TUESDAY Prominent CitizenjStricken Suddenly With Fatal Illness The death of Mr. Bailey Car michael, one of Butts county’s most substantial and highly re spected citizens, occured at his home Tuesday night at 6 o’clock. He was stricken suddenly and passed away before anything could be done for him. Though he had not been well for some time the end came without warn ing and was a shock to the fami ly and a large circle of friends. Mr. Carmichael was 74 years old, a Confederate veteran and a well known citizen who was held in the highest esteen by all who knew him. He was a mem ber of a well known family of the county and had spent the greater part of his life in Butts county. He is survived bv his wife, who was Miss Patrick before her marriage; four daughters, Mrs. Charlie Fletcher, Mrs. S. J. Bai ley, Mrs. Peake and Miss Mary Joe Carmichael; four sons, Messrs Glenn, Tom and Lee Car michael and Rev. Walter Carmi chael, of Byron; one brother. Mr. J. A. Carmichael, of Pike county; a sister, Mrs. R. B. Harkness, and other relatives. The funeral was held at Fel lowship church, of which he was a member. Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Rev. James Bradley of the Jackson Presby terian church conducted the ser vices. He has been out the last two Sundays on account of sickness. Since a division was made in the school for the blue and red buttons we have enrolled 19 members. We have the very best Sunday school now that has ever been on record for Sardis church. We are glad to have a good many of the Worthville people in our school. We hope to have more of them. We have Sunday school every Sunday morning at 9:30. New members are invited to come and take part in the school. We give you a hearty welcome and a pret ty button. Sometime in June or July Rev. Z. E. Barron will teach a Bible course at the church, this is to benefit the S. S. teachers and en able them to teach their classes in a better way. Everybody is invited to the singing the fourth Sunday after noon at 2 o’clock. A number of good singers will be present. Mr. M. A. Wilson who has been sick for several weeks is very much improved. W, H. MERRITT BUTS THE J. R. WRIGHT PLACE An important real estate deal consummated a few days ago was the purchase by Mr. W. H. Mer ritt of the J. R. Wright place on Oak street. This property was owned by T. H. Wilkinson, of Jasper, Fla., who it will be re called lived here for a short time a few years ago. Mr. Merritt who recently disposed of his property on Mulberry street to Mr. T. H. Nolen will occupy his new home at once. The consid eration is said to have been around $3,500. Aiken, Hodges and Sitton were up to Fincherville from the dam Saturday night. Master Stewart Lee Maddox of Valdosta is visiting his aunt, Mrs. Ike Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Thornton entertained the young people Saturday night. Mr. W, R. Kitchens spent Monday in Jackson.
