Thaxton, of said state and county, executed and delivered to R. N. Etheridge, E. L. Smith and C. M. Compton a certain promissory note for the principal sum of $203.00, and on said date executed and delivered tosaid parties a deed to the following land, situate, lying and being in said state and county to-wit. Twenty acres in Iron Springs district of Butts county, Georgia, bounded as follows: On north by lands of B. M. Thaxton, east by lands of B. B. Kelly, on south by lands of S. M. Thaxton and on west by lands of Joseph Jolly. To secure said promissory note, and whereas said deed contained a stipula tion that should said note not be paid at maturity, the grantees in said deed have the power to sell before the court honse door in the City of Jackson, said state and county, the above described real estate, after advertising the same once per week lor four weeks, preceding said sale. And, whereas said note became due on the first day of November, 1914, and the said S. M. Thaxton failed and refused, and still fails and refuses to pay the same. Now, therefore, by virtue of the pow er of sale contained in said deed, exe cuted as aforesaid and recorded in book F, page 376, in the office of the Clerk of the Superior Court of Butts county, the undersigned will sell at public sale at the court house door in said state and county, during the legal hours of sale, to the highest bidder for cash on the first Tuesday in April, 1916, the above described real estate, for the purpose of paying the principal, inter est and costs due on said note. The amount received from the sale of the above property will be applied to the payment of the principal, interest and costs aforesaid, and the remainder, if any, shall be paid over to the said 8. M. A BUTTS COUNTY CORN CLUB BOY DISTINGUISHED The State of Georgia has just had issued from the press a Corn Club bulletin authored by J. K. Giles, assistant State Agent. The feature which especially attracts the attention of our boys is that the picture of one of their mem bers is printed upon the outside of the front page. It represents one of Butts’ many prize winners, Bernard Gaston, standing in his acre of corn and holding several stalks of it in his arms. There were more than 10,000 of these bulletins printed to be sent out to boys all over the state. This comes as an unexpected honor to our county and to the young man in particular. The picture was made by J. W. Andrews, Butts’ rural photographer. H. L. Worsham, County Agent. A TRIBUTE TO MRS. M. H. BARBOUR Mrs. Martha H. Barbour, of Eugene, Oregon, died last Friday evening at 8 o’clock in this city at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Carmichael. Although Mrs. Barbour had been in Jackson just a little more than one year she had made a great number of real friends who regarded her as a truly strong, deep and earnest character. Be yond the average in mental at tainment and high ideals she de lighted those who came in con tact with her and her sweetness of temper, gentleness and kindly consideration were always mani fest. In every respect she was a lovable woman but the great beauty of her character was her constant, tender and loving de votion to her children and no change that years and sickness wrought brought any change in the care, love and unselfishess that were bestowed upon them. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. T. Hagerman,Toronto, Can., three sisters, Mrs. Robert Green, also of Toronto, Mrs. James Shook, Peterboro.
