Resolved Ist. That we the citi

interest in tho railroad develop

promising as the/ do, the opening
up of hitherto undeveloped sections
of our common country; bringing
to* our state a large amount of capi

property, and placing comforts and
accomodations at the doors of pri

feel the deepests sense of gratitude
to the syndicates organized for the
purpose of building the extension
anj the Georgia Pacific.
Resolved 2d. That we have heard
with surprise that opposition to the
granting of the charter to Rome,
would be made in the General As

That while we have too much
confidence in the intelligence pa

should such be true, we deeply de
plore lie want of appreciation on
Lae part of such of orir agents as
woui i refuse to grant such rights to
tho syndicate which proposes to be
our benefactors.
Resolved 3rd. That we congrat

have so long been deprived of such
facilities, ,pp.op n thc ..prospect of a

two hnndred negro laborers for
Col. Renfroo’s section of the Ma

was amusing to note the get-up and
luggage of those amateur travelers,
most of whom came 'from Wash

coats, no coats, dusters, -valises,,
satchels, small trunks, grip-sacks,
meal sacks, umbrellas and water
melons. The line of march to\the
encampment in the park was taken
up, and as the procession moved off
it looked like a column of contra

OGR TYPO*S SPEECH.
- ** * *' r
IVe had tho* pleasure of visiting
the school of Mis§ Rettie Moore, on
Friday evening and was de
lighted with tha recitations, taking
info consideration the age of her
tliey" can’t.be beat, the re
citations in' Spelling, (which'we
consider the most important foun
dation of Education) was almost
perfect. '
Our Typo, Eddie McGehee, who
is one of the most attentive to his
business, joined in with the classes*
and did credit to. himself.
After the recitations were over
he delivered the following speech:
Ladies and Gentlemen : Antong all.

printing. Front the, largest and nfo;
costly book to the smallest i)aii\phlei
there are found thought of rarest beauty.
Before the art oi printing took- its place
in the bustling busy world, these gems
were narrowly confined to the favored
few whose means enabled them to deal
in manuscripts. The present day. is
fruitful, npt only of though is, the grand
est and most sublime, but of their rapid
transmission from mind, to mind. The
philosopher in the remotest part of our
green world Unearths some, profound
mystery and the wires speed jt across
continents and broad seas to the printers’
door and his busy fingers set it up, so
that it becomes in a few days the prop
erty of the whole civilized world. Some
new star is seen from Beilin’s hilltops
to-day’, and to-morrow the printers of
New York give it to a hundred thousand
readers. Printing is to the lazy pen
what the dashing" iron-house is to the
slow plodding ox, which barely travels a
mile an hour. Look at your eage" an-
at post arrivals. The news
papers. come fyOm different quarters
with their several budgets of informa
tion as welcome guests to your roading'
rooms. T‘ tese lake rank, like the otlicers
of a well regulated army, and you find
recreation and Often real pleasure in
their perusal. An account, ot fiercely
fought battles with trailing banners on
the one hand, and the palm of victory on
the other, comes to you through this
rapid vehicle of thought.
The news-papers of 1.0-day are like the
oil of thirsty ma hinerv. The world is
on electric wheels. "Men are 011 the
lookout/for something new amdstratling:
something that stirs the soul and sets
their ambition on fire. These anxious
desires are .answered by the press and
echoed from hill to hill the world over
by the news-paper armies.
Don’t forget that-the typo plays an im
portant part .in this rapid transmission
of thought. Bending over his case with
all his jchky surroundings, he becomes
the hoi aid of those choice items which
fill your soul with so much lapiure, and
beguile tho hours that would otherwise
drag so heavily upon your heals. Then
ladies‘ why don’t you.send, him, ,a pice
cake now and then to lighten life’s bur
