TjrfE AROHS. J ‘ HAH.no.K A; J.ii. Edilori and Publishers. Entered at the of Jackson as second class mail matter. PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY. lackson, Du., June 2I 1891. ONE DOLLAR PER ANNUM. WIIAT A PITY I Mr. W. F. Smith, a man whostauils hiyh in (lie estimation of the people, but imagi ues he has a grievance, gave ve.it (o his long pent up suspicions in ‘he !a>*t issue t t Ills paper. He is no iil) i<ee nor Western man, but he is a ■Butts county man, who has lived here all ot lus life, and w hose father and brother represented this county in the legislatuie before Osborn, Post, turn Coxey went crazy, and sowed the seeds of discord among our people. Mr. Srnit'll goes back on bis people, liis town, bis state, and even bis South. He goes back on the bank of bis town and says people that be meets on the streets even look “tour,” and then adds that ha would be ashamed to tell all tlie indignities lie lias suf fered. He says the man that says he is allowed his political fteedom teds a Jieas black as hell. Now, the arti cle in which these things are said is surrounded with advertisements from Jackson and Fiovilla, whose authors are Democratic, and respect Air. Smith notwithstanding the political views lie holds, and his Coxey it-* pro clivities. Those who patronize Air. Smith are not in sympathy with his views. Some of them have a democratic paper in their own town that has not the scratch of a pen in regard to their bus iness, and who expect this paper to ojiposo discord and advocate unity among our people to the end that (heir property may be safe from the attacks ol inflamed ignorance among our colored friends, which state ofaf lairs such Panel and wrongs as are said to exist in the article is likely to pro duce. Populists don't use our paper, even it they live in Bultrill’s or \\ 01 hville district, they would be careful to pass us by and go to Flovjlia to make their advertisements. Vv e know Air. Smith personally, and know him to be a gentleman, but w non be prays tor the South to be no longer s. lid and wants division and discord among our people, he is doing wi cng and we in common wi.n a great many democrats over the coun ty don't believe lie ought to receive the patronage of those whose honesty lie attacks, and we believe Mr. Smith will agree that he won’t support a tiling that is abusing him and his town and section. People who have the interest of the democracy of Butts county at heart are watching to see w ho encourages its enemy. There are a number of Jackson’s best citizens who came from the north ami who are respected as much as any man native-born. We believe Air. Smith has put himself in a false posi tion before the people. He don’t mean that this county is intolerable to good men of different political view’s. The truth is no good man can come here and live iu this genial southland and learn the surroundings without affiliating with the best element. The South is and must be solid until after our brother in black is colonized. Mr. Smith makes a bold charge that the facts won’t sustain, and he probably does it lor political effect—a thing no man could have made us believe he would have written, had his name not been signed to it. We hope he will modify it at his earliest opportu nity, and we believe he will. Frum the present outlook A. O. Ba con will be the next United States sen ator from Georgia. He is one of the best equipped men in the state to hold this important office.—Alpharetta Free l’ress. It is pretty ccrtaiu that Hon. A. O. Bacon will be a candidate for the United States senate. We believe that the people in this neck ot the woods will be for him unless a local candidate comes out.—Banks Ga zette. If a person or ders bis paper discontinued lie must pay all arrears, or the publisher will continue to send it uutil paymeut, whether the paper is taken out of the office or uot.—Newspaper Postal Law. a Stand-off. “How is the election for governor progressing in your county, ilr. Jones ?” ‘•lt s about a stand off so far—one side is a steuliu’ of tker votes about as fast as ’tother side can buy ’em. At last accounts they were still a votin au’ a buy in’ an’ a stealin’ an’ a lyin'* It’s might close an’ will take an ocif fial count to tell which side will get in to the penitentiary first. The sheriff has been telegraphed lor to decide the matter.”—Skiuvllle Skinner. JENKINSBURG DOTS. Alisscs Bessie and Suie Woodward, spent last week visiting relatives at this place. In this eminently progressive age, the education of no young man, no matter what his intended avocation, can be regar ded as fully qualifying him for success unless he possesses a business training. Where to get that of the most practical character most quickly and cheaply is the question. This paper ventures nothing iu saying that investigation will prove the Ga.—Ala. Bnsiness College of Macon, Ga. to be the very institution. A/any young men in six to ten weeks, at an expense of from S2O to S3O, have recently finished bookkeeping, telegraphy or shorthand there, and, in spite of the ah id times, immediately stepped into positions paying from SSO to $75 per month. There is usually a disposition to wait and begin v, ith the Aew Fear; but if a business education is of any all, the quicker it is gotten, the more valuable it i<, and by writing to the piiccipals, Messrs. Wyatt & Aiartin, A/acon, Ga., at once, much better terms can be had than by waiting until later on. Placed six graduates last week.
