ONE DOLLAR PER ANNUM.
Jackson is the best c RUin mar
ket in this country. Farmers
get more on an average for
their cotton than at anyoth* r town
in this country. The merchants
here sell goods cheaper than any
other merchants and anything you
want is for sale in J,n k-on cheaper
than tne same kind t f goods at
any other place. The truth is when
3 on get a little more for your cotton
and get your goods for a litile loss,
the common sense t f it all is this:
it pays and pays like anything to
come to Ja< ksor.

AT THE STAR STORE.
The grand opening at the Star Store
on Thursday night is the talk of the
town. A grand display of an immense
stock of goods in regular city style. A
regular concert with the very best of
music. A hand of music could not have
exceeded that produced by Miss McKie,
Mr. Harp and Mr. Miller. The people
are delighted with this treat from this
enterprising firm.
We have no ill feeling towards any
populist on earth. They have a right to
believe as they please, and we have al
ways accorded them that privilege. But
when a man has politics in his feet so
bad that he stops his subscription to the
akgus because we called tue pops the
“piano party” we must rise to ask:
Has Tom Watson got the brains for the
whole shootin’ match? The stopping of
that subscription is a great set-back to
us and if no paper is issued from this of
fice hereafter, you may know the reason.
That pop that stopped his akgus will
see this article, as lie will walk ten
miles to a neighbor’s house to get our
paper; he can’t do without it; it’s natu
ral for him to hunt it up, even if he has
♦o sneak around and borrow one. See!
GRAND OPENING.
The opening at the New York Store
on Friday night was a grand affair. Jap
anese lanterns threw their glimmering
rays in among the brighter lights of the
store aud street lamps, giving everything
a peculiar though picturesque appear
ance. The doorways were literally
crowded to overflowing with Jackson’s
beautiful ladies and gallant men. The
beauty and magnificence pictured in the
rooms could not be appreciated without
having been seen. Miss Hattie Buttrill
was the lucky lady who drew the fifteen
dollar souyenir given away by this enter
prising firm at their semi-annual open
ing. Our people were delighted at the
success of this grand affair.
EAST JACKSON.
Dear Mr. Editor: —Since the election
tide has rolled by and Old Democracy
still carries the banner it makes me feel
proud, yes, I feel it in my bones, if it
was not for my big feet I would try
jumping up and cracking my heels to
gether. You may bet old East Jackson
is feeling good.
Mr. Luther Plunket 6pent. Saturday
and Sunday at home we are proud of
Luther aud he likes Atlanta.
Mr. J. A. Moore visited Stark last
Sunday he said his object was to get a
square meal.
We think from the way Mr. IT. F.
Gilmore is ridiuu his wheel around the
mill he’ll be in the ring at the exposition
next year.
Mr. Andy Plunket has been to Atlanta
aud bought him a parrot. Andy says he
can’t learn his girl to say what he wants
her to say but he will make his bird
t alk as he says. The first thing he wants
it to say is, Hurrah for Atkinson, aud
then he will learn it to say Miss ■
or old Mister he says it is already doing
its thinking.
Well Mr, Editors, we don’t see much
of you, can’t you come down after a
chunk of fire if nothing else I am ready
to give you a hearty reception I know
you would be tired as a poor editor has
to walk.
