The Globe store is a hustler. When
you want good goods cheap you can not
do better than to go to the Globe store.
Read carefully the advertisements
in this issue. They are all live, ener
getic merchants who deserve a share
of your pationage.
If you think our Christmas edition
is worth speaking of, please meo'ion
it to your neighbors, and get them to
subscribe for the Argus.
Work for your town and county.
No man is tit to live in a community
who won’t say a good word tor his
own towui and community.
The merchants who have advertised in
thi9 issue are all live, energetic men, and
it will pay you to give them your patron
age when in need of anything in their
line.
Don’t judge a man by Ins looks, for
though one may wear fine clothes, he
at the same time may be owing the
Argus a subscription bill of a dollar or
two.
We regret to learn that Mr. Charlie
Pinckney is confined to his room with
a severe spell of sickness. We hope
he may convalesce sufficiently to be
out again.
The oil mill will rnnon through Christ
mas and January, at which time we will
wind up our seed. Those who want
hulls had better get them now, or they
may miss the opportunity.
The drummeis all say that outside of
Atlanta, Jackson is the best town in
the south. Tim reason they except At
lanta ? s because the drummers are
nearly all trom there. See?
Xo subscriptions will be taken fer
the Argus unless the cash accompa

and die happy, come to Jackson. She
offers special inducements tomanufac
tures of all kinds, and welcomes pros
pectors with open hearG and cheerful
eou ntenanees.
The young men of Jackson are
speaking of having a masquerade ball
one night this week. It has been a
long time since Jackson has had a ball
of any kind whatever, and it will no
doubt he enjoyed when it gets here.
Let the croakers and moss-backs
all take a hack seat now and wateli
Jackson continue to move onward and
upward. She will start the new year
with an increased speed that will give
these poor fellows the sore eyes to
watch her.
Head every word contained in this
issue, and if you don’t think we deserve
a good word of praise lor our efforts in
behalfof Jackson, just put a krg of dy
namite in a bole, stick a match toil,
aud sit on the hole until the dynamite
gets in its work.
The Betsy Hamilton entertainment at
the Institute chapel last week was a
most eujoyable occasion. Mrs. Moore,
nee Mrs. Ploughman, is inimitable in
her character sketches and fully sus
tained her reputation. The managers
had reserved a treat for the audience
which was not on the programme. Miss
McKie, the talented director of the mu
sic department of Jacksou Institute, ap
peared, and made two charming recita
tions which captured the audience com
pletely. Indeed her elocutionary talent
is remarkable. Her impersonation in
“Raggedy Man” was perfect; her gestic
ulations aud facial expressions indicated
a true conception. Miss McKie is a
gifted young lady and a valuable addi
tion to Jackson society.

We overheard a man talking one
day last week, and wc recommend
him to the citizens of Jackson as a
tirst-class turn-coat. One person, an
anti county-court man, tackled him
on the subject thusly :
“Well, how ’bout this pertition fer

“Oh ! there's nothing in it—it’s ad
