THE OUTLOOK AS ONE
WRITER VIEWS IT
The price of cotton and cotton
seed is booming, but farmers
don’t be switched off from plant
ing a big crop of wheat and oats
this coming fall and winter. lam
old enough to remember cotton
selling for 44 cents per pound,
and I also remember seeing far
mers go dead broke when those
high prices existed.
We notice some of the banks
are advertising to loan on cotton
at 6 per cent, but we find that
their proposition don’t help the
land renter and poor man any,
for we have investigated the
matter and we find that the far
mer has to put up SIOO worth of
cotton before he can get a loan.
Hence you see that squeezes all
the little farmers out of their cot
ton into the hands of the specu
lator. The speculator can then
go the bank and secure a loan on
the cotton the little farmer has
been refused a loan on.
Now, gentlemen, if what we
have said is not the facts in the
case we will be much obliged to
someone who is high up in the
financial world to give us a little
more light on the subject through
the public press.
The great trouble in the com
mercial and political world today
is they say let’s make out like
we are going to do wonders for
the farmer, but when it comes to
a showdown we will see to it that
it is not done.
