FIRE DAMAGES
DEPOT STORE
BLAZEHARDTO CONTROL
Fire Department Saved
The Building
Fire which probably caught
from a defective flue on the sec
ond story, damaged the Mays
building at the depot considera
bly Wednesday afternoon. The
alarm was turned in shortly after
4 o’clock and the fire department
promptly responded.
The stock of goods was dama
ged by water considerably. The
loss is partly covered by insur
ance, it was stated.
The fire was one of the hard
est to fight in the history of the
department, owing to the con
struction of the building, which
was divided into many partitions.
After fighting determinedly for
two hours the fire department
extinguished the flames. The
building was saved, though dam
aged considerably.

MR. LEWIS AND FAMILY
THANK THEIR FRIENDS
In the past I have had a Vari
ety of experiences and passed
through many trying ordeals, but
on last Wednesday night I had a
new experience and a fearful or
deal. But amidst it all we are
comforted by the thought that
the origin of the fire was not the
work of an incendiary nor care
lessness on our part. Really we
are at a loss to know how it star
ted. But best of all is to have
good neighbors and kind friends.
We shall never forget the dear
people of Floyilla for their heroic
efforts to save the house and con
tents and for their liberal contri
butions to us in our distress. The
people of Jackson have also been
kind to us and considerate of our
needs. We shall ever hold them
in grateful remembrance. God
bless them all.
