MANY CONVICTIONS
IN SUPERIOR COURT
PLEAS OF GUILTY ENTERED BY
NUMBER OF DEFENDANTS.
CALANDAR PLACED IN GOOD
CONDITION.
A large number of criminal cases
have been disposed of at the August
adjourned term of superior court
in session here this week, and when
court adjourns for the term the cal
endar will be in good condition. The
adjourned term was called by Judge
Ogden Peieons to hear criminal
cases only.
The grand jKry completed its
work and adjourned Tuesday after
noon. About fifty indictments were
returned, it was stated.
Up to Wednesday nirfit sentences
had been passed in the following
cases. There had been many con
victions in which sentences had not
been imposed. Those convicted of
making, having or selling whiskey
found rough sledding during the
week.
W. . Webster, indicted - for
cheating and swindling in connec
tion with several cars of pepper
contracted for with Butts county
farmers in the fall of 1922, was
acquitted.

of Education at five miiis on the
dollar for the year 1924, and you
are hereby requested to levy such
special school tax on alt of the
property in the county of Butts
outside of the City of Jackson for

the public schools in the several
districts of Butts county for tha
year 1924 at the same time and
manner as in now provided for
by law for levying and collecting
taxes for county purposes.

year 1924, there is levied upon the
taxable property located within the

tax of eighteen and one-half (18.60)
mills on the dollar, for the support
and maintenance of the county of
Butts for the year 1924, said levy

The General Assembly shall not change
or abolish any county nor the name
thereof which may be affected
hereby and tn having the consolidated
sub-divisions in each sane, the names
of the municipality or municipalities and
of the county shall be combined so as to
preserve them.
The General Assembly shaM create
each political sub-divisions by special
got or law relating to a particular sub
division, but no suoh act or law shall
have any force or effect until the game

papers in each Congressional District in
this State for the period of two months
next preceding the time of holding the
next general election, and ,the Governor

tion to the electon of this State at the
next general election to be held after

person shall be Qualified to vote who It
