j celebrate his eighty-fifth birth
day.
Dinner guests were Mr. and
Mrs. J. R. Marchman, Mrs. Mar
vin Strawn, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Strawn, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Cook
and Mrs. Lila James, all of Jack
son; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin An
drews of Hapeville and Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Haralson of Villa
Rica.
After the birthday dinner the
honoree was presented with many
nice and useful gifts.
Other relatives and friends
dropped by in the afternoon to
wish Mr. Strawn a Happy Birth
day and everyone had a very en
joyable time.

ViSIT MRS. GILMORE
FOR DAY’S OUTING
Mrs. Arthur Gilmore was host
Saturday to 19 Brownie Scouts
and five parents of Troop 249,
Jonesboro, at a picnic and outing
at her home on Jackson Lake.
During the day the Brownies
enjoyed hiking, nature study,
games, songs, and a picnic lunch.
Cathy Taylor, granddaughter of
Mr. and Mr. Gilmore, is a member
of the troop that visited here
Saturday.
PERSONAL
Friends of Mr. Frank Stephens
will be interested to know that
he has just returned home from
a two weeks stay in Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital, where
he underwent surgery. Mr. Steph
ens will return to the hospital in
two weeks.

MIMOSA GARDEN CLUB
HELD WITH MRS. HICKS
The November meeting of the
Mimosa Garden Club was held
at the home of Mrs. Wright Hicks
with Mrs. P. H. Weaver, Mrs.
Jack Newman and Mrs. Howard
Jolly serving as co-hostesess. Tra
ditional Thanksgiving refresh
ments were served prior to the
program.
It was a pleasure to have Mrs.
Norman D. Gibson as a guest and
Mrs. Ted Evans of Athens, a for
mer member of the club, to be
present. They were given a warm
welcome.
The president, Mrs. Vincent
Jones, expressed appreciation to
all members who helped with the
Stay and See Georgia contest.
Mrs. Jones issued an invitation
for members to see Miss Scott’s
Chi-istmas arrangements at the
Community Room of the Jackson
National Bank on November 18th.
The club expressed appreciation
for the invitation to see Mrs.
Elizabeth Watkins’ Christmas
decorations at the meeting of
the Cherokee Garden Club.
There was discussion of the
Christmas Lighting contest which
will be planned by the Garden
Club Council. The Mimosa Gar
den Club will cooperate in any
way requested.
Mrs. N. A. Powell introduced
the program for the meeting.
Colorful table arrangements had
been made by the hostesses.
These were semi-formal, break
fast table, informal luncheon
table, breakfast tray and buffet
table. Mrs. Max Polk narrated
each table and used as a guide
rules from etiquette and floral
arrangements.

Wayne, on November 19 at Grif
fin Hospital. Mrs. Smith is the
former Sherry Dorris of Waverly,

TO HOLD BAKE SALE
The Tri-Hi-Y of Jackson High
School will hold a bake sale on
Monday, November 25, and Tues
day, November 26. It will be set
up on the court house square and
at Econ-O-Way Laundry on
South Mulberry St.
The sale will be from 4:00
p. m. to 6:00 p. m. both days. The
club will use the money collected
to send to “World Service”. This
is an organization which helps
feed and clothe the poor people
all over the world.
We want to invite everyone to
come to the bake sale and buy
home-made candy form the Tri-
