car Young and J. T. Beckham,
Jr. This committee is appointed
to investigate and report to the
foreman the facts and circum
stances involved in the hire by
the county of one of the members
of the Board of Commissioners
on a full time basis. Such mem
ber would be charged with the
responsibility of planning and
maintaining such roads as come
under the jurisdiction of the
county. The committee will make
recommendations as to the com
pensation of the member selec
ted.
We have returned 102 True
Bills and 13 No Bills.
We attach hereto investigating
committee reports and other sup
porting documents. Said reports
and documents are made a part
of these presentments.
We recommend that these pre
sentments be published in our
county paper and that the paper
be paid the usual fee for same.

We the undersigned committee
appointed to invesigate the office
of Butts County Treasurer and
Board of Commissioners of Roads
and Revenues submit the follow
ing report:
The office of the County
Treasurer was found to be in
good shape, and very well main
tained.
The yard of the County road
barn was found to be in reason
ably good condition, in good
order and neat. As recommended
by a previous Grand Jury, there
were locks on gas pumps and the
yard was found locked also.
We recommend that the rest
room.< in the court house be put
in better condition, remodeled
and painted, and the court house
cleaned inside and painted.
We found the county road
equipment to be adequate with
the exception of dump trucks. We
recommend that the County pur
chase new dump trucks. All other
equipment was found to be ade
quate and in good condition.
As has been done in the past,
this committee recommends that
the office of the Butts County
Commisioners of Roads and Rev
enues continue to publish in the
local paper a complete Financial
Statement at the end of each
fiscal year.
This committee believes that
the Butts County Board of Com
missioners of Roads and Rev
enues is one of the most import
ant departments in our County
Government and urge that it give
the County its utmost efficiency
in its operation.

of the Butts County Department
of Family and Children Services,
report that we find them to be
neatly kept and so far as we are
able to ascertain, are correct.
We would like to state that the
building is adequate, commend
the County Commissioners for
providing such adequate facili
ties.
We found the building neat
and orderly and commend Mrs.
Powell for the excellent way in
which she and her staff run the
Department of Family and Chil
dren Services.
We recommend that the Aid to
Families with Dependent Children
program especially be given the
full support of all county authori
ties and the public.

We, the undersigned committee
appointed to investigate the jail
and sheriff’s office of Butts
County, submit the following re
port:
We found the jail to be clean
and in a satisfactory condition
with the exception of the follow
ing:
JACKSON PROGRESS-ARGUS, JACKSON, GEORGIA
1. The lavatories and com
modes need to be repaired or re
placed.
2. All the shower stalls need to
be repaired.
3. Shower curtains should be
hung on all shower stalls.
We recommend that the up
stairs of the jail be soundproofed
from the downstairs.
We recommend that the county
build at least twelve (12) indi
vidual jail cells, to be construc
ted either over the living quarters
constructed in the basement of
the court house. In the event
that the individual jail cells are
constructed in the baseement of
the court house, it is our under
standing that the City of Jackson
has agreed to assume fifty per
cent of the cost of keeping an of
ficer on duty at all times.

In operating the Schools dur
ing the 1968 school year the fol-'

from the Jackson National Bank,
