torical Society, will make a round
trip between Atlanta and Fort
Valley using two, “whistle-tootin,
cinder-throwin” operating steam
locomatives hooked together as a
“doubleheader” at the head of
the excursion train.
The July 5 special, with South
ern Railway’s locomative No. 630
(2-8-0 Consolidation) and the At
lanta Chapter’s No. 750 (former
Savannah & Atlanta Railway
4-6-2 Pacific type) pulling a 15-
ear train, will leave Atlanta’s
Terminal Station at lj:30 a. m.,
that Saturday morning, heading
for Fort Valley. A short stop
will be made at Griffin on the
way down; the train will return
via Macon with a stop there and

steam locomotives are being
fueled and watered and the train
turned around for the trip back.
Civic officials will be on hand
to greet the train as it arrives,
a military band will serenade the
steam buffs and local groups are
arranging to provide peaches,
peach ice cream and barbecue to
the travelers.
