Julius Batchelor
Is Week’s Top
Grid Guesser
Last week’s games were so
tough that it appeared luck was
more important than judgment in
prognosticating winners in games
which were marred by upsets and
ties.
Nine contestants missed three
games for a temporary tie, but
when the scores were considered
Julius Batchelor emerged as first
place winner of the SIO.OO cash
prize with 156 points to 159 for
Ernestine Glass, second place
winner and recipient of $5.00
cash.
The football guessing contest is
sponsored this year by Wise
Standard Station, City Pharmacy,
Allen’s Hom-Ond Food Store, and
I Jackson Hardware, and as it ap
! proaches its climax with the tra
ditional games of late November,
more entries have been noted
with more interest evidenced in
the contest which pits the skill
against the outcome of the guess
er in 10 weekly games across the
nation.
Others missing three games
and their point totals were Pat
Peek, 164; Mrs. R. W. Carr Jr.,
166; Mrs. Zodie Cash, 166; Mary
Zane Swearingen, 168; Walt Mc-
Kemie, 187; Hal Barnes, 190; R.
W. Carr Jr., 230.
Missing only four games were
Margaret Roberts, Pete Peter
son, John Sherrell, Murry Mon
crief, Phyllis M. Davis, Lou Kim
bro, R. P. Newton, Mrs. C. E.
Davis, Tom Robison, Jane Jenk
ins, Mrs. L. A. Brooks Jr., Mrs.
Lee Roy O’Neal, Sue Coker, Mrs.
Ruth Singley, Richard Johnson,
Beth Barnes, Mrs. Julius Batche
lor,, Peggy Glass, Bailey Crock
arell, Debby Duke, Nancy
Brooks, Charles Dreyer, William
Singley.
Tulane’s shocking 14-7 upset of
Tech, plus the 13-13 Georgia-
Florida tie, got prognosticators
off to a bad start. Other games
that proved puzzling were Wake
Forest’s 23-21 win over Virginia
and Texas A&M’s 20-10 triumph
over SMU.
Contestants are again reminded
by the sponsors that blanks may
be obtained from them and must
be placed in boxes at any of the
four places of business on or be
fore noon Saturday that games
are to be played.
