Ode To The Yellow Jackets
The following note is from Kenny Smith of Hovilla, a
most devoted Georgia Tech fan, who took pen in hand and
penned a most appropriate poem on Tech’s fine 6-0 “upset”
win over Georgia Saturday in Atlanta. Kenny writes: I have
written a poem on Saturday’s so-called “upset ’ between
Georgia and Georgia Tech. I thought it might be of some
interest to you and your sports column in the paper. Here is
my poem. Sincerely, Kenny Smith.”
NOBODY KNEW BUT THE DOGS
By Kenny Smith
From North, South, East, and West,
They met in Atlanta to decide who was best.
The Bulldogs came because they knew
They had the best team,
But the Jackets came just to fulfill a dream.
The Bulldogs knew from the start
They had won the game.
And* nobody knew that after it
Things won’t be the same.
When the Jackets kicked the beginning kick
off up,
Dogs were no longer Bulldogs,
They were little Poodle Pups.
After the first quarter, 0-0,
The score was tied.
And nobody could tell me
That Georgia had not tried.
Then the second quarter ended,
Tech ahead by six,
Nobody but the Bulldogs knew that
Georgia was in a bad fix..
Then came the third quarter, and the fourth,
And the score remained the same.
Then suddenly came the end of the hard fought
game.
Tech had won it fair and sound,
Bowl-bound Georgia had been smeared in the
ground.
The Bulldogs left Atlanta like
Poodles with broken necks,
And “Yes, Vince Dooley and Company,”
There is a “Georgia Tech.”
