Mrs. Maude Shaffer Welch,
78, of Lincoln, Alabama, Route 2,
died at her home Tuesday night,
December 9th.
Funeral services were held Fri
day, December 12th, at three o’-
clock in Lincoln Methodist Church
with the Rev. Ernest Dover and
the Rev. Sam Lowry officiating.
Burial was held in Lincoln Ceme
tery with Usrey Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements. The
body lay in state in the chapel
until two hours before the service
when it was taken to the church.
Survivors include seven daugh
ters, Mrs. Ruth W. Mitchell of
Lincoln, Alabama, Mrs. Sara W.
Walker of Pensacola, Florida,
Mrs. Mildred W. McLean, of
Blythewood, South Carolina, Mrs.
Louise W. Potts of Jackson, Mrs.
Lurlean Lee of Anniston, Ala
bama, Mrs. Zella W. Gaston of
Melbourne, Florida, Mrs. Betty
W. Phillips of Pensacola, Florida;
three sons, Frank Welch of Lin
coln, Alabama, Clint Welch of
Mobile, Alabama, John Welch Jr.
of Pensacola, Florida; a sister,
Mrs. Nellie Clemments of Annis
ton, Alabama; three brothers, Dr.
Benton Shaffer of Bessemer,
Ala., Mason Shaffer of Anniston,
Ala. and Aubrey Shaffer of River
side, California; 29 grandchil
dren; nine great-grandchildren.
A native of Calhoun County,
she had lived there most of her
life. She was an active member
of the Lincoln Methodist Church.
Pallbearers were Gary Welch,
Terry Welch, John Welch, Ronnie
Jones, Joe Mitchell, Curtis Mit
chell, Jimmy Mitchell, David Potts
and Mac McLean.
Honorary pallbearers were dea
cons of the church.

Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Allen had
as their weekend guests Mr. and

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edwards
and family in Douglasville.
Mrs. M. B. Farrar was hostess
to the Jenkinsburg Garden Club
with a beautiful Christmas party
on December 17th. Fifteen mem
bers enjoyed her hospitality.
Her home was beautifully deco
rated with the holiday motif.
Mrs. Francis Ford brought the
devotional. The program was pre
sented by Mrs. Flora Price, then
games were enjoyed. The dining
table covered with a green taf
feta cloth, covered with green
net, was laden with party sand

Sims poured Russian tea from the
silver tea service on the end of
the table.
Mrs. T. H. Price entertained
the Ollie Childs G. A.’s with a
Christmas party on December
23rd. Games were enjoyed for an
hour, then gifts were exchanged
among all. Refreshments of party
sandwiches, cookies, cheese dip
and punch were served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Bernice
Letson. Those present were:

and Joye Letson, Karen Cook,

Rev. S. J. Westbury had the
misfortune of having an automo
bile accident on 1-20 Highway on
Saturday. There was extensive
damage done to the new station
wagon but we are glad to note
that he wasn’t injured. Their
children, Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Hunt and family and Mr. Jim
Westbury and family of Griffin,
visited them during the Holidays.

and Cathy of Pittsburgh, Penn,
spent the Christmas Holidays
here with their parents, Mr. and

visit with grandparents.

at Fitzgerald for some time. He
had been quite ill for several
months, and he passed away on
Christmas morning and made a
sad holiday for the ten children
and families that survive him.

Mrs. J. O. Minter.
Mrs. Alice Parker, Tommy and
Nancy of Covington spent Sun
day with Mr. and Mrs. W. M.

Gallman remains on the critical
list.

list at Macon Hospital. We hope
he can soon be better.

Lejeune, N. C. spent a few days
