Income Is
Key To
Tax Return
Americus, Ga.—The amount
of your income is a key factor
in determining whether you have
to file a Federal income tax re
turn, J. R. Williams, Local Rep
resentative of Internal Revenue,
said today.
Anyone under 65 years of age
with a gross income of S6OO or
more for the year has to file a
return. This requirement applies
to minors, students, single and
married alike.
No return is required from
anyone 65 or older on the last
day of the tax year unless the
gross income was $1,200 or more.
However, when the income is un
der these limits a return should
be filed to get a refund of any
income tax withheld from salaries
or wages.
Businessmen, farmers, and
other self-employed persons must

Pack 80
News
Cub Scout Pack 80 met Tues
day night, January 27, at the
Jackson Methodist Church. The
theme for the month, Knights of
Yore, was presented in various
skits by the dens.
Harold Martin and his Webelos
Den 2 were welcomed into the
pack. Their Den Chief, Jerry
Crum, was presented his Den
Chief’s cord.
Leading the boys in their study
of Knights of Yore, and in work
ing up the skits were Mrs. Janie
Potts and Den Chief Scott Per
due, Den 1; Mrs. Alex Martin,
Mrs. Bill Bradley and Den Chief
Richard Brooks, Den 2; Mrs. La
rue Sessions, Mrs. Christine Wil
file a return if their net earn
ings from self-employment were
S4OO or more.

ney. This signifies his entrance
into Boy Scouting just after his
11th birthday.
The meeting was well attended

Butts County fell 2.3% short
of achieving its 1969 Savings
Bonds quota of $62,000 according
to the December report, which
was released locally by Mrs. Eliz
abeth H. W'atkins, County Sav
ings Bonds Chairman.
During December Butts resi
dents purchased $3,065 in E
Bonds and $250 in notes to bring
the county’s 1969 total to $50,-
782 or 97.7 of the quota.
Other counties in the sixth
district concluded their 1969
sales as follows: Henry $317,449
or 105.8; Lamar $188,184 or
94.1; Monroe $39,038 or 71.0;
Spalding $136,597 or 91.1; Pike
$28,078 or 112.3; Upson $652,-
608 or 93.2.
