Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Lev
errett of Jackson, Georgia an
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Miss Peggy Eileen
Leverrett, to John Wayne Hut
chins, son of Mr. Earl J. Hut
chins and the late Mrs. Bernice
Hutchins of Rupert, Idaho.
Miss Leverrett is currently
teaching in the Cobb County Pub
lic School System. Mr. Hutchins
resides in Seattle, Washington
where he is employed by The
Boeing Aircraft Company.
The wedding will take place
at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church,
April 19th, at four o’clock in the
afternoon with a reception fol
lowing. No formal invitations will
be sent. Friends and relatives are
invited to attend.

Mrs. Dillard Sams of Harris
burg, Pa. has been the charming
recent guest of her sister-in-law,
Mrs. J. B. Harrison in Jackson,
and Miss Leila Sams, another
sister-in-law, in Atlanta. Mrs.
Harrison and Mrs. Sams spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
J. Sams Harrison in Montgomery,
Alabama, going over Friday and
returning Sunday. Mrs. Sams was
expected to return home Wednes
day.

the year 1969, you do not sign a tax return. Your
return is copied. Your exemption given, and no
penalty.
If you have bought, sold, added or improved,
be sure and sign your return by April Ist.
A 10% penalty would be applied only on the
property that you failed to return, that was pur
chased since your previous return.
Those Taxpayers 65 years old with an income
from both husband and wife that does not ex
ceed S4OOO a year, be sure and check to see if
you are eligible for this additional S2OOO ex
emption. You must sign your application by
April Ist.

William Mclntosh Chapter ,
DAR, Elects New Officers
The William Mclntosh Chapter,
DAR met Saturday, Feb. 21, at
the Jackson Clubhouse. Hostesses
for the month were Mrs. Avon
Gaston, Mrs. J. M. Nutt, Mrs.
G. N. Etheredge, and Mrs. Pearl
Remington. Because of the in
ability of the Committee to be
present Saturday, Mrs. Nutt
erved as chairman, with Mrs.
W. C. Dailey and Miss Mary
Downs ably assisting her. Upon
arrival the members were served
cherry pie, coffee and nuts.
The attendance was very good,
and the Chapter is most happy
to have had present for the last
two meetings, Mrs. Beth Hearn,
Mrs. Morris Redman, and Mrs.
David Spencer.
After the ritual, the minutes,
and the Treasurer’s report, Miss
Mary Downs selected the subject
“What is Wrong with the United
States of America?” to read from
The Defender.
Mrs. George Head had ready
a slate of new officers to be pre
sented to the club. These were
read and accepted. They are as
follows:

Her home has recently been reno
vated and is used extensively for
entertainment and meetings.
Mrs. Whidby left everyone
much better informed about Butts
County Scouts by the following
facts: They started 13 years ago
in Butts County; have 4 troops;
Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, and
Seniors. Three who attended Na
tional events last year, two who
received the God and Country
Award, seven who completed
the full 11-years of Scouting, all
seven ih college now. The foun
dation of the Girl Scout program
is built on the promise, laws,
service, troup management, citi
zenship, international friendship,
health and safety. Jackson Girl
Scouts are sponsored by the Ki
wanis Club. The talk ended with
the following:
“May the silence of the Hills,
the Peace of the Winds,
The Music of the Birds, the
Fire of the Sun,
The Strength of the trees, And
the faith in our Youth
In All which is God, Be in
Your Hearts.”

ted to return today from Griffin
Hospital after having had surgery
last week. v

tine, Florida while their daugh
ters, Lisa and Laura, spent the
