CHRIST IS RISEN
In this Post Easter season let
us linger on the memory of that
marvelous event —the resurrec
tion of Christ. The validity of the
Christian religion either lives or
dies on the truth of the state
ment made in Matthew 28:6 “He
is not here; for He is risen, as
He said.” Christ’s resurrection
vindicates all the claims that He
made that He was God incarnate
in human flesh. His claim of a
miracle birth, of a sinless life, of
an atoning death would have been
groundless without the resurrec
tion.
The Apostle Paul states the
same thing in I Cor. 15:12-20.
“Now if Christ be preached that
he rose from the dead, how say
some among you that there is no
resurrection of the dead? But if
there be no resurrection of the
dead, then is Christ not risen:
and if Christ be not risen, then
our preaching vain, and our faith
is also vain. Yea, and we are
found false witnesses of God;
because we have testified of God
that He raised up Christ: whom
He raised not up, if so be that
the dead rise not. For if the dead
rise not, then is not Christ raised,
and if Christ be not raised,
your faith in vain; ye are yet in
your sins. Then they also which
are fallen asleep in Christ are
perished. If in this life only we
have hope in Christ, we are of
all men most miserable. But now
is Christ risen from the dead and
became the first fruits of them
that slept.”
Lew Wallace, author of the
Christian Classic, Ben Hur, set
out to destroy the historical
validity of the Christian faith,
and especialy the truth of the
resurrection of Christ. His intent
was to write a book that would
completely discount the person
of Christ. Before he had written
more than a few chapters, he had
to do a right about face. His
honest research brought him face
to face with the historical Christ.
He could not deny him, so he be
lieved Him. He became a great
Christian and rewrote his book
verifying that Christ was all He
said He was.
The fact of the resurrection
changed a group of disheartened
men—Jesus’ disciples—into radi
ant men. Their message was so

compelling, so undergirded by
their glowing happy lives until
they were irresistable. They had
not only heard a,bout it, but they
had seen the resurrected Christ.
It was upon the rising tide of
this message that the Christian
Church was born, through which
salvation and hope has been
brought to millions.
Not only did the truth of the
resurrection carry the early dis
ciples to marvelous heights of
joy and service, but this same
fact is imprinted in the lives of
us who believe the fact that
Christ is alive now thrills our
hearts and to know that because
he lives we shall also live strikes
undaunted courage in our lives
to be true to His ethics and cause
in this world. The joy in the
Christian life is the result of the
knowledge of the resurrected
Christ who lives and reigns for
ever.
This is the gr6at need for this
“now” generation. Christ can
meet our need NOW and give the
peace that so many are searching
for.

THE CHURCH FOR ALL,
ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest factor
on earth for the building of charac
ter and good citizenship. It is a store
house of spiritual values. Without a
strong Church, neither democracy
nor civilization can survive. There
are four sound reasons why every
person should attend services regu
larly and support the Church. They
are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For
his children’s sake. (3) For the sake
of his community and nation, (-ft
For the sake of the Church itself,
which needs his moral and material
support Plan to go to church regu
larly and read your Bible daily.

I don’t remember which I found first, Grand
ma’s shoes or her letters. I do recall, that as I
lifted things from her battered trunk, it seemed
as though time had slipped backward. Suddenly,
the lady in the faded family tintype became real
to me.
Nicely polished and laced, her tiny shoes re
vealed that she was a petite person, neat and
particular. A faded nosegay indicated a senti
mental heart. “My dear son,” her letters began,
and as I read her w r ords to that long-ago boy, my
Dad, the reality of her love seemed present in
the sun-drenched room. Outside the dusty window,
a bee buzzed, and in_that quiet moment I became
acquainted with her personality.
Often, God reveals Himself to us in just such
a way. By the beauty of His world, in the truths
within His Bible, through the ministry of His
Church, He discloses the fullness of His love.
Attend your church. Through worship and
prayer, enlarge your understanding of God.
