Only two more days and July
4th will be here with people over
the country hitting the highways
on all four wheels, flirting with
death each time the ignition is
turned on in the car. Any holiday
weekend usually results in
slaughter on the highways but
July 4th always seems worse, for
this is the time of year that peo
ple by the hundreds take vaca
tions and are always in a hurry
to get where they are going.
Many, many people will travel to
Daytona, Florida for the annual
stock car race while others will
be on their way to visit friends
and relatives. Whatever the case
every driver should be cautious
and drive by the golden rule . . .
. . . With the arrival of the week
of the fourth of July it is time
to stop and ponder on the fact
that the year of 1970 is already
half gone. What have we as a
nation, a country, a state and
most important, as an individual
accomplished in the past six
months to better ourselves and
our fellow man? Something not
to be taken lightly most of us
would probably find no answer
to the question. If such is the
case perhaps we should get to
work and make the next six
months the most profitable of
our lives No housewife
was surprised recently when the
television- newsmen carried re
ports that food prices had in
creased in the last ten years. One
such report issued was that in
1970 a sl3 bag of groceries
would have only cost $lO in 1960.
We are inclined to believe they
increased more than that in ten
years. In fact it seems like that
everytime one goes in the grocery
store prices have risen in a mat
ter of a few days Camp
meeting time is only a hoot ’n
holler away and is looked forward
to with great anticipation by
church goers all around. It is a
time of renewed faith in God and
rededication of ones life to serve
Him better in the coming year
than in the past. One of the best
known camp grounds in this area
is, of course, Indian Springs
Holiness Camp Ground, which has
been around a long number of
years and is well attended by peo
ple from all over the South.
Others ngarby are Adrian and

tip useful.
When buying meat for the
food freezer, remember proper
wrapping is as important as pro
per stage. Use only moisture-va
por resistant wrap. Extra heavy
aluminum foil, heavily waxed
freezer paper or specially lami
nated papers are good for this
purpose.
Wrap the meat closely, elimi
nating all air possible. Seal the
package air tight. Improperly
wrapped packages will allow air
to enter and draw moisture from
the meat. This results in “freez
er burn” or meat which is dry
and less flavorful. Air also causes
oxidation which brings about
rancidity in meats.
Egg-Wise
Eggs are always a good buy
nutrition-wise. But now they are
not the only cat lovers in the
Jones family. We believe Mrs.
Vincent Jones is a great cat fan
cier for just recently she planted
some catnip specially for her
feline and apparently is looking
after her ‘garden’ as closely as
most people look after their vege
table garden. She made the re
mark last week that it was not
flourishing as well as she had an
ticipated though, but we know
that when the catnip does grow
as it should Mrs. Jones will have
the happiest cat in the county.

also a good buy economy-wise.
Shoppers will do well to keep
these suggestions in mind when
buying eggs.
Generally speaking, if there is
less than a 7-cent price spread
per dozen eggs between one size
and the next smaller size in the
same grade, you will get more
for your money by buying the
larger size.
Refrigerate eggs promptly at
home, large end up, to help main
tain quality. Cook eggs at low to
moderate temperatures. High
temperatures and over-cooking
toughen eggs.
Remember, shell color is deter
mined by breed of the hen and
does not affect the grade, nu
tritive value, flavor or cooking
performance of the egg.
