NOTICE OF SALE UNDER
POWER IN DEED TO
SECURE DEBT
On the 16th day of August
1969 JESSE L. BARNES execu
ted a real estate promissory note
for the principal sum of TEN
THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED
($10,300.00) DOLLARS to New
ton Federal Savings & Loan As
sociation of Covington, Georgia,
which promissory note with in
terest thereon at the rate of
8%% per cent per annum, was
payable i n monthly installments
of $86.41 each, beginning on the
first day of September 1969 and
continuing thereafter on the same
day of each succeeding month,
with the final and last install
ment being due and payable on
the first day of August 1991,
each payment being applied to
the interest then due, and the
balance to the reduction of the
principal amount, the interest be
ing computed on the upaid prin
cipal balance. Time was made the
essence of the contract, and the
said note contained a provision
for the payment of Ten (10%)
per cent of the unpaid principal
balance and the interest owing
thereon as attorneys fees, if col
lected by law, or through an at
torney at law. In order to secure
the payment of said note, the said

conveying to it the following des
cribed tract or parcel of land,
to-wit:
TRACT NO. 1: All that tract
or parcel of land, situate, lying
and being in the 613th. District
G.M. (Coody District), Butts
County, Georgia, consisting of
two (2) acres, more or less, be
ing improved with a three (3)
bedroom brick veneer house, par
ticularly described, to-wit; BE
GINNING at a point lying on the
north boundary line of Land Lot
No. 15, and from said point of
Beginning N. 290 feet to a point;
thence W. 300 feet to a point;
thence S. 290 feet to a point;
thence E. 300 feet to a point,
which is THE POINT OF BE
GINNING. The said tract of land
being bounded now, or formerly,
to-wit; By property of Mrs. E.
L. Barnes Estate, said lot be
ing described as per a Plat pre
pared by T. J. Collins, a Regis
tered Surveyor, and said plat be
ing dated November 14, 1961,
and by reference the said Plat
is made a part of this description,
and the same being of record in
the office of the Superior Court
Clerk of Butts County, Georgia.
Said parcel of land being located
in the Ist Land District of Butts
County, Georgia as shown by
said Survey Plat.
TRACT NO. 2: All that tract
or parcel of land, situate, lying
and being in the 613th. District
G.M. (Coody District) Butts
County, Georgia, in said Land
District, and the same being a
private driveway, described as
follows: BEGINNING at a point
found and located by measuring
east from the northwest corner
of Land Lot No. 15 along the
north boundary of said Land Lot
No. 15 a distance of 400 feet,
thence measuring north 100 feet
to the easterly boundary of
a public dirt road, whi c h
road is described as lead
ing front State Highway No.
16 southerly across the Letson
Road and extending just east of
the home of Mrs. Rosa B.
Barnes (deceased); from said
point of beginning in a uniform
width of 25 feet on either side
of said Point of Beginning, mak
ing a total of 50 feet, extending
east and southeast 460 feet along
a driveway to the home oT the
Grantor. Said driveway being
further described as per a plat
of survey prepared by T. J. Col
lins, Registered Surveyor, which
Plat is dated November 14, 1961,
and by reference said Plat is
made a part of this description
and of this deed and said being
recorded in said Clerk's Office.
Said Deed to Secure Debt is
recorded in Deed Book 40, page
657-658 in the office of the Su
perior Court Clerk of Butts Coun
ty. Georgia.
Because the said JESSE L.
BARNES defaulted in making:
payment of the monthly install
ments as aforesaid as they ma
tured, N EWTO N FEDERAL
SAVINGS & LOAN ASSOCI
ATION, pursuant to the provis
ions of said promissory note,
and said Security Deed aforesaid
the same, has exercised
its option and declared the entire
balance as due and collectible.
Notice fixing the liability for at
torneys fees has been given ac
cording to Law. There is a bal
ance of $10,300.00 as of the
31st. day of August 1970, includ
ing interest and principal, and at
torneys fees thereon.
The said Deed contains a power
of sale authorizing the Grantee
as Attorney in fact for Grantor
therein to sell the property con
veyed thereby in order to satisfy
said Note, as well as subsequent
advances, after advertising the
same once a week for four (4)
weeks in the official gazette of
Butts County, Georgia in accord-
ance with said Power of Sale and
by virtue thereof NEWTON FED
ERAL SAVINGS AND LOAN
ASSOCIATION will sell the pro
perty described above at public
outcry to the highest bidder for
cash, on the first Tuesday in Oc
tober 1970 before the Butts
County Court House Door, the
place of Public Sales in Jackson,
Butts County, Georgia, and
within and during the legal hours
of sale.
The proceeds of the sale will
be used as follows: (1) To pay
the expenses of said Sale; (2)
To pay the sums secured by
said Security Deed, including
said attorneys fees; and, (3)
The balance, if any, to JESSE L.
BARNES.

INVITATION FOR BIDS
The Housing Authority of the
City of Jackson, Georgia will re
ceive bids for furnishing all la
bor, materials, equipment, and
services necessary to construct 26
dwelling buildings containing 52
dwelling units and a Maintenance,
Management and Community
Building including all site im
provements, utilities, & landscape
work until 2:00 P. M. Daylight
Saving Time on the 6th day of
October 1970 at the Mayor and
Councils Chamber, City Hall,
Bartlesville, Georgia, at which
time and place all bids will be
publicly opened and read aloud.
Proposed forms of contract
documents, including plans and
specifications, are on file at the
office of the Housing Authority
of Jackson, Georgia; and at the
office of Wise, Simpson, Aiken
and Associates, 873 Spring
Street, N. W., Atlanta, Georgia
30308; at the Atlanta Builders’
Exchange, 393 Techwood Drive,
N. W., Atlanta, Georgia 30313;
at the Dodge Plan Room, 1316
West Peachtree Street, N. W.,
Atlanta, Georgia 30309; and at
the Dodge Plan Room, 844 2nd

Applications for documents, to
gether with deposit of $50.00
per set, should be filed promptly
with the Architect. General Con
tractors may obtain up to two
sets. Bidding material will be
forwarded, shipping charges col
lect, as soon as possible. The full
amount of deposit for each set
will be refunded to each Gen
era! Contractor who submits a
bona fide bid upon return of each
set in good condition within 10
days after date of opening of
bids. AH other deposits will be re
funded with deductions approxi
mating cost of reproduction of
documents upon return of same
in good condition within 10 days
after date of opening of bids.
Deposit checks shall be made
payable to the Housing Authori
ty of the City of Jackson, Geor
gia.
A certified check or bank draft,
payable to the Housing Authority
of the City of Jackson, Georgia,'
U. S. Government bonds, or a
satisfactory bid bond executed by
the bidder and acceptable sureties
in an amount equal to five per
cent of the bid shall be submitted
with each bid.
The successful bidder will be
required to furnish and pay for
satisfactory performance and pay
ment bond or bonds.
Attention is called to the pro
visions for equal employment op
portunity, and payment of not
less than the minimum salaries
and wages as set forth in the
Specifications must be paid on
this project.
The Housing Authority of the
City of Jackson, Georgia reserves
the right to reject any or all bids
or to waive any informalities in
the bidding.
No bid shall be withdrawn for
a period of 30 days subsequent
to the opening of bids without
the consent of the Housing Au

(f) The Board of Registrars

tion of the Courts, the mainten
ance and support of prisoners,

(k) The Sheriff of Butts Coun
ty, the Deputy Sheriff’s thereof,
and the expenses for the opera
tion of said Department, includ
ing the Jail, the care of prisoners
confined therein, and the ex
penses therefor.
(l) Furnishing supplies to each
Justice of the Peace.
(m) Pay the salary of the
County Coroner and the expen
ses of said Department.
(n) Pay the County Agricul
tural and Home Demonstration
Agents and conduct programs for
utilizing the services of such
agents.
(o) Establish and conduct pro
grams of welfare benefits and
public assistance as may be pro
vided by law.
(pi To provide for the paying
of the principal and interest of
any debt of the County and to
provide a sinking fund therefor,
including debts legally incurred
prior to the current year.
(q) Provide fire protection for
forest lands and conserve natural
resources.
(r) To build and repair the
public bridges and buildings.
(s) To provide for reasonable
reserves for public improvments
as may’ be fixed by law.
(t) To provide medical or
other care and hospitalization of
the indigent sick.

ment, and pension benefits, cov
erage under Federal Old Age and
1 Survivors Insurance programs,
hospitalization beneftis and work
man’s compensation benefits for

tain, improve, or aid in the acqui
sition, construction, maintenance
or improvement of public build
ings, bridges, county roads, parks,
public libraries, and other pro
perties for public use; and to
acquire real property, or any in
terest therein to carry out the
foregoing as provided by law;
and, to furnish all necessary sup
plies, office supplies, office fix
tures, stationary, stamps, tele
phones, utilities, dockets, ledgers,
motor vehicles, automobiles,
trucks, road machinery and equip
ment, or any other item or article
of property in connection with
the foregoing. 15:75 mills or
$15.75 Dollars on the Thousand
Dollars of taxable property in
Butts County, Georgia; in addi
tion to the State Tax in the
amount of :25 mills, or 25 Cents
on the Thousand Dollars of tax
able property i n Butts County.
IV. For payment of principal
and interest on County Bonds
(Hospital Bonds) :75 mills, or
75 Cents o n the Thousand Dollars
of taxable property in Butts
County subject thereto. Total
levy being 31.25 Mills.

Mrs. Elaine Bedsole Brown,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Bedsole of Jackson, was among
those graduating Friday night,
August 28th, from the Macon
Hospital School of Nursing. She
is now employed at Georgia Bap
tist Hospital, Atlanta. Going
down for the occasion were Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Bedsole, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Bedsole, Mr. and Mrs.
Dewey Lassiter and Ron, and
Mrs. Susie Padgett of Biloxi,
Miss.

Mrs. Godwin
Died Monday
Mrs. Thelma Langsto n Godwin,
67, of 157 Hill Street, Jackson,
died Monday morning about nin'.
o’clock at the Griffin-Spalding
County Hospital after being a pa
tient there about three weeks.
Mrs. Godwin was the widow of
Mr. Willie Godwin and was a na
tive of Floyd County, Georgia.
She was the daughter of Mr.
John Langston of Floyd County
and Mrs. Maggie Bollanger
Langston, of Cherokee.
Funeral services were conduc
ted Wednesday afternoon at two
o’clock EST from the Bethel
Methodist Church in Cleburn
County, Alabama. Rev. Wiley
Cameran, pastor of the Westside
Baptist Church, and Rev. Richard
Fields of Griffin officiated with
interment in Bethel Cemetery.
Haisten Funeral Home of Jackson
was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by
three daughters, Mrs. Helen Hol
somback of Jackson, Mrs. Nell
Akins of Rome and Mrs. Kathe
rine Mauk of Williamsport, Pa.;
three sons, J. K. Godwin of Jack
son, Thomas Godwin of Dora
ville and O. C. Godwin of Rome;
a sister, Mrs. Fred Baker of
Chickamauga Park, Ga.; three
brothers, Jack Langston of Jack
son, Will Langston of Shannon
and John Lankston of Jackson;
24 grandchildren and three great
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jackie Baker,
Bill Langston, Stanley Baker,
Hoyt Langston, Shelton Langston
aad James Bobo.
PERSONAL
Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Garland
moved to Macon on Saturday,
friends will be interested to
learn. Mrs. Garland is employed
as visiting teacher in several Bibb
County schools and Mr. Garland
will enter Mercer Law School in
September.
