Mrs. Don V. Barnes of Macon
has been named Georgia Home
maker of 1970 from the sixth
congressional district.
Mrs. Barnes has an AB degree
in sociology from the University
of Georgia. She has been em
ployed in the payroll and per
sonnel departments of a bank and
has done accounting for a biscuit
company.
The Barnes children are Elaine
Marie, 14, and Donna Faye, 11.
They are allowed to make de
cisions of their own after they
have been discussed with their
parents. They help in meal prep
aration and cleaning up. They
also help their mother in pre
paring fruits and vegetables for
the freezer.
Mrs. Barnes prepares double
quantities of food she cooks and
freezes half for later use. She
also bakes ahead, freezes fruits
and vegetable and makes jelly,
pickles and canned tomato juice.
She improves her homemakig
education by attending sessions
on home decorating, cooking, sew
ing and flower arranging.
She is a member of the Subur
ban Junior Woman’s Club, West
Georgia College Alumni Associ
ation and the University of Geor
gia Alumni Association. She
teaches a junior Sunday School
class, assists with Methodist
Youth Fellowship and plays on
the church’s ladies softball team.
She has served as a grade
mother and clothing bank chair
man, a program chairman for
Woman’s Society of Christian
Service and PTA, she has plan
ned and presented programs on
drugs and school curriculum.
Her hobbies include sewing,
cooking, athletics and sharing
special dishes with neighbors and
friends.
Mrs. Barnes will be honored
with other district winners at the
Southeastern Fair on Georgia
Homemaker Day, Thursday, Oc
tober 8.

Of Key Club
The Jackson High School Key
Club held its dinner meeting at
8 o’clock at Falls View Restau
rant on September 16th. Charles
Brown, club president, presided.
Present at the meeting were
the new club members and the
Keyettes, a newly organized
group of girls who work along
with the Key Club boys on school
and civic projects.
Officers for this year include:
Charles Brown, president; Bruce
Hicks, vice president; Don Cook,
secretary, and Mark Maddox,
treasurer. These officers, along
with June Maddox, Fred Head,
and Billy Glidewell, will serve
on the Board of Directors.
Appointed as committee chair
men were Curtis Taylor, Fair
Booth; A1 Gilbert, School Cam
pus; Charles Brown, Talent Show.
This year the Key Club is plan
ning to be the “Key” organiza
tion at school. The club has al
ready initiated a school campus
project, and nine members are
directing traffic in the downtown
areas before and after school to
enable a smoother flow of traf
fic.
Members of the 1970-71 club

Tommy Fletcher, Randy Free
man, Mike Hodges, Steve Peck,
