National Defense. Mrs. W. M.

the address given by Tom Ander

Use Leaders
The Power Use Committee of
The Central Georgia Electric
Membership Corporation held its
annual joint meeting with the
Board of Directors of the coope
rative on Wednesday, November
18, at the headquarters building
in Jackson. The meeting, held for
the purpose of reviewing the pre
vious year’s work of the commit
tee and for making plans for the
coming year, revealed that the es
say contest, the home economics
award, 4-H and FFA projects,
had been held during the year.
Kitchen parties, Christmas Light
ing Programs for both classroom
and adult groups, small appliance
and lighting demonstrations were
among the reports given for the
past year’s activities.
Mrs. Elizabeth Watkins, Mem
ber Services Director, told of her
recent trip to Dallas, Texas to the
Co-opmanship Conference where
those attending were given liter
ature on procuring loans under
the federal housing program. Mr.
Armstrong stated that he had
talked earlier in the day with a
representative of the Farmers
Home Administration who had
told him that money is available
to those in the low income group
who are unable to procure loans
at as low interest rate elsewhere
provided they meet the speci
fications set forth fo r these loans.
The ladies felt that they would
choose this for their main pro
ject for the upcoming year—that
of assisting those in their com
munities of learning of these re
quirements. Another project they
elected for the coming year was
that of holding small community
group meetings to learn more
about co-op affairs.
Following adjourning of the
morning’s program, the guests
met at the home of Mrs. Watkins
where they were joined by co-op
staff personnel for an enjoyable
luncheon.

Christmas
Seals Have
Been Mailed
Christmas presents are sur
prises. Or they should be. This
week over 2700 residents of
Butts county will get their first
holiday surprise.
This is Christmas Seal week
when the traditional Christmas
Seals of the Georgia TB-RD As
sociation are delivered to homes
all over Butts County.
“The Christmas Seals will be
a real surprise this year—differ
ent from anything we’ve ever had
in the past,” said Bill Bartholo
may, Christmas Seal Chairman.
“But one thing I can say: every
seal on the sheet of 100 will be
different.”
One more hint was dropped by
Bartholomay: the sheet of Seals
will make up “Christmas Seal
Town.”
“They’re old-fashioned and
contain symbols of just about
every holiday custom there is,”
he said.
Contributions to the Christmas
Seal Campaign support the many
program aetivites of the Georgia
TB-RD Association. Among these
activities are: the eradication of
tuberculosis, control of other res
piratory diseases, research, med
ical, education, fighting air pollu
tion, and anti-smoking campaigns.
“Look for your Christmas Seal
Town reproduced on the Seals
this week,” urges Bartholomay.
