By virtue of an Order of the
Court of Ordinary of Butts Coun
ty, Georgia, granted at th e De
cember Term 1970, there will be
sold at public outcry to the high
est and best bidder for cash, be
fore the Courthouse Door in Mor
gan County, Georgia, between the
legal hours of sale, on the first
Tuesday in January, 1971, the
following described property of
the Estate of Charles E. Barber,
deceased:
“All that tract of land, togeth
er with all improvements now
and hereafter situated thereon,
lying and being in th e 397th
(Seats) District, G. M. of Mor
gan County, Georgia, containing
according to the survey and plat
hereinafter mentioned THREE
HUNDRED TWENTY - SEVEN
AND 50/100 (327.50) ACRES,
more or less, and being bounded
as follows: On the Northeast by
the thread of Little River and by
lands formerly of Walker, now
owned by Henry Green; on the
Southeast by lands of Newton;
on the Southwest by a 250-acre
tract which is part of the Old
Ranee Newton place, which tract
of 250 acres is also shown on the
survey and plat hereinafter men
tioned but is being retained by the
said C. R. Mason, and by lands of
E. L. Johnston; and on the North
west by lands of Johnston; and
the tract of 327.50 acres hereby
described has the shape, monu
ments, courses, and distances as
shown and delineated by survey
and plat prepared by R. E. Hardi
gree, Registered Surveyor, on
January 30, 1960, said plat being
of record in Plat Book No. 5,
page 1, in the office of the Clerk
of Superior Court of Morgan
County, Georgia, and said plat
and the record thereof are by
reference thereto made parts
hereof for aid in a more particu
lar description.”

6 Minimum bills will be increased to $3 00 per month for 90
KWH on residential rate and 88 KWH on commercial rate.

Mrs. Lamar Whitaker and
daughter, Glenda, will join their
husband and father in Bitsburg,
Germany for the Christmas sea
son. Mrs. Whitaker and Glenda
left Tuesday, December 15th, and
will remain in Germany for two
years.
Miss Kay Pinckney of Agnes
Scott College is spending the
Christmas holidays with Dr. and
Mrs. R. H. Pinckney.
Mrs. David Evans expects to
have her daughter, Miss Cathy
Evans of Shorter College, home
fo r the Christmas holidays.

Mrs. Bankston
Passes After
Long Illness
Mrs. Willie Ruth Pittman
Bankston, widow of Mr. W. R.
Bankston, died at the Macon Hos
pital early Thursday morning, De
cember 10th. She had made her
home at Bolingreen Nursing
Home in Monroe County about
two years and had been a patient
in the hospital since Monday.
Mrs. Bankston was the daugh
ter of the late Mr. C. A. Pittman
and Mrs. Eugenia Fretwell Pitt
man, both of Butts County, and
had originally lived on the
Jackson Dam Road. She was a
member of the Macedonia Bap
tist Church. She was born July
31, 1897.
Graveside services were held
Friday afternoon, December 11th,
at three o’clock at the Pittman
Family Cemetery with Rev. T. H.
Wilder and Rev. R. W. Jenkins,
pastor, Macedania Baptist Church,
officiating. Haisten Funeral
Home was in charge of arrange
ments.
Survivors include two brothers,
Ernest L. Pittman of Palm Beach,
Florida and Joe T. Pittman of
Jackson; several nieces and neph
ews.
PERSONAL
Martin Ridgeway is expected
to arrive this week to spend
Christmas with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Ridgeway. He is
a student at Georgia Tech in At
lanta.
Misses Norma Dean Hearn and
Alice Patrick, students at Geor
gia College at Milledgeville, are
expected to spend Christmas with
their parents, Mrs. Mary Will
Hearn and Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
Patrick, respectively.
Among those from Georgia
Tech expected to spend Christ

my McCormick and David Cook.
Charles Starr, student at Geor
gia Southern College, was expec
ted to arrive Wednesday to spend
the holidays with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Rogers Starr.

Mother Jackson
Pastor Died
In Tennessee
Mrs. Jessie Mae Pitts, Route 2,
Tullahoma, Tennesse died Wed
nesday, November 25th, at the
Coffee County Hospital after a
long illness. She was 73 years old.
Services were conducted Satur
day, November 28th, at the
Chapel of Tullahoma Funeral
Home with the Rev. Cecil Spry,
pastor of Bible Missionary
Church, officiating. Burial was
in Bethany Cemetery.
A native of Warren County,
Mrs. Pitts was the widow of
George E. Pitts Sr., a Cof
fee County farmer, and long time
Magistrate of this county. She
was a member of the Methodist
Church.
Survivors include three sons,
J. W. Pitts of Tullahoma; George
Pitts Jr. of Manchester; and
Evangelist Grady Pitts of Jack
son, Georgia; three daughters,
Mrs. Ruth Harris, Mrs. Martha
Ferrell and Mrs. John Brown, all
of Tullahoma; two brothers, Da
vid Ogles of Columbia, Tennes
see and Jim Ogles of McMinn
ville, Tennessee; a sister, Mrs.
Lourine Kray of Columbia; 17
grandchildren, and two great
grandchildren.

L. G. Phillips
Passes At
Hogansville
Mr. Lewis G. Phillips, 82, died
Monday at his home in Hogans
ville.
Mr. Phillips was a native of
Dadeville, Alabama, having lived
in Hogansville and Troup County
for the past 35 years. He was a
member of the Langdale Baptist
Church and the Woodmen of the
World.
Funeral services were conduc
ted Wednesday afternoos at three
o’clock from the chapel of Claude
A. McKibben Funeral Home in
Hogansville. Rev. G. Hanford
Hamby officiated with interment
in Hogansville Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Herman Lang
ford of Jackon and Mrs. Leonard
Robinson of Hogansville; two
sons, Lewis G. Phillips, Jr. and
Thaniel Phillips, both of Hogans
ville.

at West Georgia College.
Miss Lynn Crum of Trevecca
Nazarene College in Nashville,
Tennessee is expected to spend
the Yule season with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Crum, and
brother, Jerry Crum.
Miss Elisabeth Freeman of
Reinhardt College is expected to
spend the holidays with her par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis M.
Freeman.
Miss Kay Whidby of Georgia
Southern College is expected to
spend Christmas with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Lynville Whidby,
on the Griffin Road.

Wright Hicks of West Georgia
College will be in Jackson during
the Christmas season to be with
his mother, Mrs. W. G. Hicks.
Larry Fletcher is expected to
spend the Christmas season with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian
Fletcher. He is a student at West
Georgia College.
Mr. and Mrs. David Maddox of
West Georgia College will spend
some time during the holiday
season with friends and relatives
in Jackson.
