Series of Parties Compliment
Martha Saunders, Bride-Elect
A seated luncheon was given
for Miss Martha Saunders on
Sunday, December 13th, by Mrs.
Gail Dover and Miss Brenda Mar
shall at the home of Mrs. L. H.
Cawthon. Those attending were
some of the teachers from both
the schools.
Tables were placed in -the
spacious den where the guests
were served a three course lunch
eon. A color scheme of Christmas
colors, red and green, was car
ried out.
The guests assembled in the
living room for Miss Saunders,
bride-elect, to open her gifts.
Bridal Shower
Miss Martha Saunders, bride
elect, was honored recently with
a bridal shower in the tea room
at Davison’s in Atlanta. Hostess
was Miss Shirley Salter of De
catur, roommate of Miss Saun
ders the four years she attended
West Georgia College.
Those attending the party were
friends and college mates of sur
rounding areas. The bride re
ceived many useful gifts.
Bridesmaids Luncheon
Mrs. George Saunders and Mrs.
Jimmy Saunders entertained Sat
urday, December 12th, at a
bridesmaid’s luncheon in honor of
Miss Martha Saunders, whose
marriage to William B. Jones
will be Saturday, December 19th.
The lovely affair was at the
home of Mrs. George Saunders.
A Christmas arrangement of
greenery and red satin balls
graced the dining table.
Miss Saunders chose this oc
casion to present gifts to her
attendants.
Enjoying the hospitality of the
hosts, in addition to the honoree,
were Mrs. Bob Lucas of Smyrna,
Mrs. Jim Crayton of Zebulon,
Miss Shirley Salter of Decatur,
Mrs. Bub Ridgway, Miss Janet
Robison, Miss Lynn Saunders,

elect of William B. Jones, whose
marriage date is set for Decem
ber 19th, was honoree at a mis
cellaneous bridal shower on
Thursday evening, November sth.
The showe r was given by Mrs.
C. L. Ridgway Jr. and Mrs. La
mar Jinks at the home of Mrs.
Jinks on McDonough Road.
Following the entertainment
for the evening, Miss Saunders
opened her assortment of lovely
and useful gifts.
The guests then assembled for
refreshments where Mrs. Ridgway
presided at the punch bowl. The
hostesses were assisted by Mrs.
C. L. Ridgway Sr.
MIMOSA GARDEN CLUB
HELD DECEMBER MEETING
AT HOME MRS. SCHROEDER
The Mimosa Garden Club met
Thursday, December 10th, with
Mrs. John Schroeder at her home
on East Third Street. Co-host
esses were Mrs. Charlie Sibley,
Miss Georgie Watkins, Miss Elea
nor Moncrief, and Miss Blannie
Stallworth.
Mrs. Noah Powell, president,
presided over the short business
session.
The program, “Christmas at
My House,” was a member par
ticipation with each one bring
ing a Christmas arrangement or
item that was used in their
homes. Mrs. H. M. Fletcher gave
a demonstration on making a
Della Robbia wreath, and Mrs.
Lou Moelchert demonstrated mak
ing an apple tree.
Delicious refreshments were
served by the hostesses.
CARD OF THANKS
The cards, flowers, calls and
other remembrances sent to me
while a patient at Sylvan Grove
will always be cherished and long
remembered. They meant so much
during my period of confinement.

nurses for their many kindnesses

WERE GALA AFFAIRS
Miss Lucia Carr, bride-elect,
was honoree at a gala bridal
luncheon Saturday, December
12th.
The hostesses were Mrs. W. M.
Johnston and Mrs. J. B. Settle,
aunts of the bride, and Mrs. Da
vid Maddox, he r cousin.
The luncheon was held in the
Paisley Room of the Swan Coach
House, Atlanta, and was enjoyed
by friends and relatives from
both Atlanta and Jackson.

Linda Lane, of Macon, were
hostesses at a luncheon Sunday,
December 13th, at the Idlehour
Country Club, Macon, given in
honor of Miss Lucia Carr, bride
elect, whose marriage to Larry
Fletcher will be solemnized Sat
urday, December 19th, at the
Jackson United Methodist
Church.

Nazarenes
Plan Live
Nativity
For the second consecutive
year the Jackson Church of the
Nazarene will enact a live Nativ
ity scene with the first presenta
tion on Friday, December 18th,
with it extending through Christ
mas Eve.
The hours will be from 7:30
o’clock to 8:30 o’clock each even
ing with the exception of Wed
nesday night, December 23rd,
when the hours will be'from 8:30
to 9:30 o’clock.
The Nativity scene will be on
the lawn of the Nazarene parson
age on Indian Springs Street with
members of the Nazarene Church
participating each night. The
scene will depict the birth of Je
sus and will include a manger,
Mary and Joseph, a wise man,
shepherds, animals and Baby Je
sus.
All residents of Butts County
and this area are invited to drive
by and view this live Nativity
scene.
ST. JOHNS LODGE TO
MEET DECEMBER 21st
St. John’s Lodge No. 45 will
hold its annual Communication
on Monday night, December 21st.
The meeting will begin at 6:30
p. m. with an oyster stew. The
Lodge will open at 7:30 for the
election of officers for 1971. All
qualified visitors are welcome and
the members of the lodge are es
pecially urged to attend this im
portant meeting.

Mr. R. C. Kelly and son,
Packy, attended the game in At
lanta Sunday afternoon between
the Falcons and Pittsburgh
Stealers.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Mighten
and Janet, of Chattanooga, Tenn.,
visited Mr. H. M. Moore on Sun
day. They came down to return
Mrs. J. W. Johnson, sister of
M!r. Moore, home following a
visit of three weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Paris,
Tammy and Sonya, are now resid
ing in their newly purchased
home at 527 Joy Street.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cook,
Mr. and Mrs. Max Perdue, Rev.
and Mrs. Billy Ring and Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Elliott were among
those in attendance Friday night
at the Nazarene Zone Banquet
held at Russell’s Restaurant in
Griffin.
Beta Club
Organized
At Henderson
The Henderson Junior High
School has formed a Beta Club.
This club will be in charge of
the literary division of the news
paper entitled Jr. High-Lighter.
All students eligible to be in
the Beta Club must have an 85
or above average and in the
eighth grade. Seventh graders
can participate during the sec
ond semester.
The Beta Club held their first
meeting with Eugene McWhorter
calling the meeting to order. Dur
ing the meeting officers were
elected and are as follows: Presi
dent, Janet Robison, Vice Presi
dent, Lamar Smith; Secretary,
Denise McMichael; Treasurer,
Kenny Norsworthy; Parliamen
tarian, Tandy Williamson; Re
porter, Patty O’Neal.
Mr. McWhorter, the advisor,
also urged the members to pay
their initiation fee of $3.00 as
soon as possible. In return for
this they will receive an official
Beta Club Membership Pin and
information about other Beta
Clubs.
The Beta Clubs will meet in
Mr. McWhorter’s homeroom ev
ery second and fourth Tuesday,
during third hour unless notified.

Master Sergeant Leonard How
ell Colwell, who has been very
ill at the Williford Hall Memorial
Hospital in San Antonio, Texas,
has retuned to his home at 143
Meadow Glen in San Antonio.
His condition is very much im
proved. He is the son of Mrs.
L. P. Colwell and the son-in-law
of Mrs. Ruth Faulkner.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Elliott and
Mrs. Jean Hart and children
spent Thursday in Jonesboro and
had supper with Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Elliott and family. Mrs.
Hart, daughter of the Elliotts, re
turned to her home in Houston,
Texas following a week’s visit
on Saturday.

Miss Lauralee Hawkins, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haw
kins of Bergenfield, N. J. and
granddaughter of Mrs. W. M.
Redman of Jackson, played the
part of Jean McLai'en in Briga
doon, Fifth Annual P&S Club
Fall Musical Show, recently held
in Bard Hall Lounge.
In the listing of biographies in
the program, it stated: “Last year
Miss Hawkins titillated the audi
ence with a dazzling exotic dance
in the P&S Club production of
“A Funny Thing Happened on
the Way to the Forum.” Her ex
perience includes film work, and
a varied dance background. When
she is not dancing she works as
an occupational Therapist at the
Neurological Institute.”

mont Hospital December 21st and
have back surgery on December
22nd. His friends wish him a
speedy recovery.
