The Jackson Recreation Plan-

Of Town
BY BRENDA WILLIAMSON
People could be seen scurrying
around last week and this week
doing that last bit of shopping
which needed to be done before
Santa arrives. The stores around
the square sold out of many
things weeks ago leaving those
who waited till the last minute
out in the cold. Homemakers have
been busying themselves in their
kitchens making goodies for all
the company that is expected
at their house for the Yule sea
son. Children have eagerly looked
forward to a visit from Santa
Claus and those who are going
to Grandmother’s house for
Christmas are leaving specific
orders for Santa to leave their
toys there also. With the Christ
mas rush more or less over today
let us not forget what the true
meaning of Christmas really is,
the birth of Jesus Christ . . .
. . . The year 1971 is fast ap
proaching and it’s time once again
to stop and consider our deeds
of the past year and to make
that long list of resolutions for

for expanded recreation for Jack

the coming year. The new year
gives each of us a chance to
begin anew and to have a fresh
outlook on life and enables us
to make new decisions with more
experience and wisdom than we
had this time last year
The City of Griffin has been
greatly excited the past few
weeks with the announcement
that a Junio r College has been ap
proved for that city. Before this
dream can be realized though,
citizens of Griffin must put in
many hours of time and money so
that students will have the oppor
tunity to better themselves for
the world of tomorrow. With a
college so near many Jackson and
Butts County boys and girls can
further their education without
the added expense of meals and
living quarters. Griffin is becom
ing quite a city because of all
the expansion that has been done
in the past few years and it is
hoped that city officials and pri
vate citizens will work together
for the good of the city in order
that surrounding towns and cities
might look to Griffin as an ex
ample of what can be done
toward the growth of smaller
cities ...... With Christmas to
be here tomorrow I hope that
Santa brings just what you wish
for *and to all of my readers
don’t eat too much and may each
of you have a very MERRY
CHRISTMAS ..... Jackson has
been one of the most attractive
cities around in the last few years
due to the annual Christmas
Lighting Contest, sponsored by
the Garden Club Council and the
Jackson Progress-Argus. Home
owners work with diligence and
put in many hours of planning in
order to compete with each other
for the best and prettiest deco
rated home. Congratulations to
Dr. and Mrs. B. F. Parrish and
Mrs. Charles Barber, first place
winners in the home division, and
to the Jackson City Hall, first
place winner in the business di
vision.
