Frank Fountain, Commander,
Post 102, American Legion of
Jackson, announces an oratorical
contest at the high school in Feb
ruary. This competition is based
on study and knowledge of the
Constituttion of the United
States. Winner of the contest re
ceives $25.00; second runner up
$15.00, and third place SIO.OO.
Winners also have the opportuni
ty of a trip and competing at
district level the following month
for additional awards.
Two speeches are given by each
contestant. One prepared speech
lasts 8 to 10 minutes. The extem
poraneous feature last 3 to 5 min
utes.
The contest demands a great
deal of study by students par
ticipating and should provide ex
cellent educational opportunities
for all students, especially for
the participants. However, stu
dents are cautioned that the work
must be their own research. Rules
prevent getting outside help.
Teachers who have accepted
this challenge are: Social Studies
—Mr. Gaye, Miss Marshall and
Mr. Bush; Speech—Mrs. Hough
taling.
Participants and competitive
dates will be published in Jan
uary.
Students are again advised that
thorough knowledge of all aspects
of the Constitution and Bill of
Rights is necessary in addition to
much thought and practice.
Tentative plans include intra
class competition before inter
class school finals.

Notice is hereby given that the
State Highway Department is con
sidering the approval of the loca
tion and design of project PR
6824 (FAS 2572), Butts County,
known as the Flovilla to Stark
Road.
This project provides for the
grading, draining and 20 foot
wide paving of an existing un
paved county road beginning at
a point on SR 87 north of Flo
villa city limits and continue
northerly to a point on FAS 1567
south of Yellow Water Creek and
is 3.639 miles in length.
The purpose of this project is
to complete FAS 2572 and pro
vide an all weather road to the
residents along this road. This is
a school bus and mail route and
will provide more direct access
from Indian Springs to Jackson
Lake.
