Three Cows
Killed As
28 Escape
Someone left a gate open Wed
nesday night, December 16th, at
the Middle Georgia Livestock
Sale barn on the Griffin Highway
which allowed 28 cows to escape.
The cows wandered onto High
way 16 West and in a short time
three had been struck and killed
by cars while others were recap
tured but on Thursday morning
about a dozen were still wander
ing at large in the area.
Butts County Sheriff Hugh C.
Polk said the drivers did not see
the cows because of a heavy fog.
Sheriff Polk said that one auto,
driven by Jesse J. Mullins of an
unknown address, hit two of the
cows, another driver who did not
stop struck and killed another
cow. Sheriff Polk said that flares
were placed at intervals along
the highway to warn of the dan
ger.
