GOING ROUND IN CIRCLES
We go in circles when we have
no commanding goals in life. Too
many people suffer from appal
ling aimlessness. We go round
and round, to the office, or class
or factory. This is bad, for with
out a unifying goal we scatter
our energies and miss the zest
God intended us to enjoy.
The story is told of a wise lady
who was employed as a children’s
nurse. One day she took the
youngsters to the amusement
park. The children spent all their
money on the merry-go-round.
Their kindly nurse tried to sug
gest other things to see and do,
but the merry-go-round won out.
After they had spent their last
cent the nurse maid expressed
he r opinion. “I’ve seen you pay
your money, I’ve seen you get
on and l’v e seen you get off. I
only ask one question, “Where
have you been?’’
It’s a good question for all of
us. Around and around we go
and where we come out nobody
knows. A famous statesman and
executive always asked on e ques
tion about anew applicant for
employment: “Has he a sense of
direction?” Now there are many
praise worthy objectives in life.
But as the New English Bible
states it, our highest loyalty
should be to, “Set your mind on
God’s Kingdom and His justice
before everything else.” Make
this your aim.” Then the other
things you desire will be by
products.
A man went into the Five and
Ten cent store. He asked the sales
lady if they sold compasses.
“Yes,” she said, "but only the
compasses for doing a circle, not
the ones for going places.” The
God whose love, wisdom and
power we experience as we live
deeply gives us a compass for
going places. Let’s stop going in
circles and be on the way to sat
isfying victorious living.

LOOSE SOILS
Homeowners often wonder if
there is a chemical that will
make lawn and flower garden
soil loose and crumbly. There is
no such chemical at the present
time, say Cooperative Extension
Service specialists. The most use
ful product for loosening com
pact clay soils is still organic mat
ter—peat moss, leaf mold, pine
bark, etc.

A TIME FOR LEARNING
These are the wonderful years, when there is so much to learn —and
hours enough in which to learn it.
Youth has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge; also the desire,
the capacity and the energy to absorb if given even a little encourage
ment. But today, perhaps more than ever before in history, youth does
need guidance.
Be sure the young people in your life have the opportunity to ex
amine the whole picture. But in their search for the stars, don't let them
forget the miracle of this planet upon which they live and its Creator.
Let them know their church.
