Engagement Of Elizabeth
Barnes To Dr. Edward B.
Selby Jr. Is Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy O’Neal
of Jackson announce the engage
ment of her daughter, Elizabeth
Sitton Barnes, to Dr. Edward
Burford Selby, Jr., son of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Burford Selby
of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Miss
Barnes is the daughter of the
late Gordon Harold Barnes, Sr.
of Jackson.
The bride-elect received a
Bachelor of Science degree from
Tift College. Sh e also received a
Master of Education degree and
a Specialist in Education degree
in Speech Pathology from the
University of Georgia. She is em
ployed as a speech therapist by
the Griffin-Spalding County
Board of Education.
Dr. Selby received a Bachelor
of Science degree from Clemson
University, a Master of Business
Administration degree from the
University of South Carolina, and
a Doctor of Philosophy degree in
Economics from Louisiana State
University. He is Director of Un
dergraduate Studies in the Col
lege of Business Administration
at the University of Georgia.
A late December wedding is
planned.

received the U. S. Air Force
Commendation Medal for merito
rious service in Bien Hoa AB,
Vietnam.
Sergeant Carpenter, an inven
tory management supervisor was
honored at Moody AFB, Ga.,
where he now serves with a unit
of the Air Training Command.
He attended Quincy (Fla.)
High School. His wife, Betty, is
the daughter of Mrs. Emma
Owens of 19 S. Chalk St., Quin
cy.

Mrs. Lamar Whitaker and baby
girl, who have recently returned
from Germany, where Lamar is in
the service, were involved in an
accident when her car hit the
side of a train in Jenkinsburg
Saturday afternoon. We are glad
to note that the baby is not hurt
and Mrs. Whitaker only received
inury to her shoulder.

Postmaster John P. Hunt today
urged all Butts area residents
to start their Christmas shopping
and mailing now.
The Postmaster issued suggest
ed mailing deadlines for assuring
delivery before Christmas Day.
Domestic gift parcels should be
mailed by December 1, if they
are destined for distant states
and not later than December 10,
if destined for local areas.
Greeting cards for distant
states should be mailed not later
than December 10, and those for
local delivery not later than De
cember 15.
Christmas cards and parcels to
servicemen stationed in foreign
countries should be sent by air
mail not later than December 10.
To be absolutely sure of on
time delivery, these deadlines
should be observed, Postmaster
Hunt said.
