Mrs. Mae Hay
Buried Monday
At Sandy Creek
Mrs. Oscar Hay, 65, widely
known Butts resident, died at
Westbury Medical Care Home at
Jenkinsburg Saturday • night,
April 15th, at eleven o’clock fol
lowing a long period of declining
health.
The former Miss Mae Gunnels,
she was born June 15, 1906 in
Jasper County, the daughter of
Mr. Sid Gunnels and Mrs. Irene
I Hadaway Gunnels of Jasper
County.
For a long number of years
Mrs. Hay resided in the Cork
area of Butts County. She was
a member of Sandy Creek Primi
tive Baptist Church. Her husband,
Oscar Hay, was killed in 1959
in a train-car collision at a cros
sing at Cork.
Funeral services were conduc
ter Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’-
clock from the chapel of Haisten
Funeral Home. Elders Paul Mann
and Elzie Speir officiated. Inter
ment was in Sandy Creek Primi
tive Baptist Church Cemetery
with Haisten Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hay is survived by one
sister, Mrs. Raymond T. Smith
of Flovilla; one brother, William
T. Gunnels of Fayetteville, N. C.;
one half-sister, Mrs. Carolyn
Kalal of Atlanta; three half
brothers, O. M. Gunnels of Jack
sonville, Fla., Sid Gunnels of Elk
Grove, Calif., Huey Gunnels of
Texas; three nieces and two
nephews.
Pallbearers were Ira Hadaway,
Leroy Tillman, Wesley Haley,
Davis Tillman, Troy Thomson and
Billy Darsey.

interested to learn she underwent
surgery last Thursday at Coli
seum Park Hospital in Macon.

ton, D. C. and Mrs. Ilene Payne
of Louisville, Kentucky attended
funeral services in Macon Sunday
for Dr. Wayne Maddox who
passed away Friday, April 14th.
Mesdames Wyrick and Payne are
sisters of Mrs. A. V. Maddox of
Jackson.
Sunday dinner guests of Rev.
and Mrs. Andy Holston and Miss
Tina Holston were Mr. and Mrs.
M. B. Cook, Herschel Cook, and
Mr. and Mrs. Max Perdue, Scott
and Sybil.

Mr. Faulkner
Dies After
Long Illness
Mr. Smith Rumble Faulkner,
69, of Route 2, Jackson, died at
Macon Hospital about 9:40 o’-
clock Wednesday night, April
12th, following a period of de
clining health.
Mr. Faulkner was born in
Butts County on April 25, 1902
to the late Mr. William Faulk
ner and Mrs. Rebecca Johnson
Faulkner. He was a retired" em
ployee of the Gateway Luggage
plant.
Funeral services were conduct
ed Saturday afternoon from the
Second Baptist Church with Rev.
A. L. Price, pastor, officiating.
Intermnt was in Pepperton Cem
etery with Sherrell Funeral Home
in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs.
Trudy Pelt Faulkner of Jackson;
two daughters, Mrs. Annette Har
dy of Forest Park and Mrs. Shir
ley Duffey of Macon; one son,
Winfred Faulkner, U. S. Air
Force, stationed in Iceland; eight
grandchildren; one great-grand
child.
Pallbearers were Sam Smith,
Ralph Faulkner, Grover Faulkner
Jr., Dewey Willis, John William
Faulkner, Douglas Faulkner.
