Cheerleaders
For Grid
Teams Chosen
The cheerleaders of the Pee
Van Deventer Football League
have been chosen and announced
by William Mack Davis, Van De
venter Youth Director.
Mr. Davis said that girls have
worked hard under the tutelage
of their coaches and are ready to
cheer their charges to victory.
The cheerleaders, as released

Sonja, all of Riverdale visited
Mr. and Mrs. George Barnes on
Sunday afternoon. The Geralds
lived as neighbors to the Barnes’
in 1940. Also visiting the Barnes’
were Mr. and Mrs. Paul James
Jr. and baby, Michael.
Mr. William Westbrook of For
syth visited Mrs. S. K. Smith and
family Sunday. Also visiting was
Mrs. F. C. Hearn.
Mrs. Estelle Bellinger and Mrs.
Ollie Cole of Atlanta visited Mr.
and Mrs. S. A. Elliott Saturday.
Mrs. Alan Wilson and baby,
Machel, and Mrs. Raymond Wil
son of Jonesboro spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Craig.
Mrs. Edith Roberts and Mrs.
Annie Gober returned Mrs. Lo
rette Capel to her home in Mo
lena Friday. She had spent some
time with her sister, Miss Roxie
Smith, and other relatives.
James Elliott was a luncheon
guest Sunday of his grandpar
ents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Elliott.
Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Long vis
ited Mrs. Harrison of Gray Sun
day evening.,
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Williams and
boys, Glenn and Andy, and Mr.
Jimmy Williams visited Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Bailey and children
of Clarkston Sunday. Mr. Wil
liams remained for a visit with
his daughter, Mrs. Bailey, and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Tedder and
Miss Lizie Nolan of Greensboro
spent Labor Day with Mr. and
Mrs. Elbert Long.
Mrs. Henry Giles of Gray is
spending some time with her
niece, Mrs. Hoyt Chestnut, and
family.
Mrs. J. C. Funderburk spent
last week with Mr. and Mrs. Cliff
Funderburk at Jonesboro. We
are glad Mrs. Funderburk is feel
ing much better. Mrs. Vivian
Hightower spent Sunday here
and was able to attend church.
We hope she received a good re
port from the doctor Tuesday and
will be home soon to stay.
Mrs. Joyce Stahl and baby, Joy,
of Jackson and Mr. Billy Long
were supper guests Saturday
night of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt
Chestnut and children, Earl, Da
vid and Rita.
Mrs. Jimmy Bolton of Com
merce and mother, Mrs. Nellie
Rush, their aunt, Mrs. Lucie Clay,
of Monticello visited recently
with Mr. Claud Morgan and Miss
Marcia Morgan.
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Rush
and sons, Chris and Mark, of
Long Beach, Calif, visited Sun
day with Mr. Claude Morgan and
Marcia. Mr. Rush also visited his
grandmother, Mrs. W. C. Rush,
at Westbury Medical Care Home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Cook and
boys, Mark, Gregg and John, had
as their guests Sunday Rev. and
Mrs. P. M .Newton, Mr. James
H. Pope of Knoxville, Tenn., and
Mr. Doyle Middlebrooks of Mil
ledgeville. Mr. Pope and Mr.
Middlebrooks were missionaries
speaking at the Flovilla Baptist
Church Sunday at both services.
Sanford Elliott traveled via
plane Friday to Ashland, Mo., to
visit his uncle, Mr. C. L. Cook,
and Mrs. Cook. While there he
participated in a sportsman's fox
hunt at Inglewood Community
and thoroughly enjoyed himself,
especially the eating. The sev
eral hundred people attending en
joyed 1800 lbs. of barbecued
mutton along with salads, pies
and cakes. Fifty dogs participa
tor in the hunt and ran a fox into
Mr. Cook’s barn and lost it.
