THURSDAY, SEPT. 21, 1972
I, Herbert Shapard, earnestly ask for your vote in the up
coming county election September 26th.
I assure you, the voter, that a vote for me will be a vote for
better county government. Some of the things I stand for and
will strive for should you honor me with the office of County
Commissioner, Post # 3, are these:
1 WILL NOT BE A “YES MAN”...
I will work with other elected officials for the betterment of Butts County. I will assure
you my opinion will be voiced in all county affairs, with the interest of our county in mind.
LACK OF COMMUNICATION IN THE PAST ...
I will let the people of Butts County know what is going on in our county, not simply
from 2 printed financial statement each quarter, but I will make available to the people of
Butts County the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Commissioners.
COUNTY PLANNING FOR FUTURE GROWTH ...
Butts County, like surrounding counties, has experienced the growth problem in the past
few years. For Butts County the problems have just begun. We must have a better planned out
look for future industry and trade. I assure you I will strive to this end.
COURTESY IN PUBLIC OFFICE ...
I feel that any official representing the people must at all times be ready and willing to
talk to all the citizens of his county and in a courteous manner. This I promise to do, to listen
to the problems of any citizen day or night.
I feel I am qualified to back up the above promises: I am a businessman in Butts County.
I have been in business for 13 years. I know mechanics (having owned my own garage).
From this experience I feel my knowledge of equipment breakdowns and the like can help
the county both financially and from loss of man hours.
I have for the past 8 years w r orked with the news media; many times in direct contact
with federal, state and local government. I feel this experience gained will be an asset to Butts
County since I have experienced both sides of public issues. I can and do see the human side
of problems and needs of Butts County.
With my business and radio news experience, I have had to keep abreast of local, county
and state laws. I feel this experience has prepared me to recognize a legal problem affecting
the county government and to know how and where to find the answer.
AGAIN I ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT ON SEPT. 26 IN THE
RACE FOR BUTTS COUNTY COMMISSIONER POST # 3 ...
HERBERT SHAPARD
