City Water
Improvements
On Schedule
A letter from Keck and Wood,
Inc., Atlanta engineers who are
in charge of water and sewage
improvements for the City of
Jackson, indicates that planning
requirements are progressing ac
cording to schedule, according to
W. O. Ball, City Councilman and
chairman of the Water and Light
Department.
In a letter to Mr. Ball from
Thomas M. Wood, Mr. Wood
wrote that “after several meet
ings with members of Mclntosh
Trail Planning Commission, it is
most probable that project clear
ances can be expected in early
November insofar as planning re
quirements are concerned.”
Mr. Wood wrote “as you recall
in May 1972 the State Depart
ment of Natural Resources, Envi
ronmental Protection Division re
quested the Federal agency to re
move the Jackson project appli
cation from the fiscal year 1972
priority list because of pending
change in legislation governing
such grants. By letter of Septem
ber 15, 1972 the State agency
filed an amended grant applica
tion for the project.
“Everything with respect to
project grant funds seems to look
toward November 1972. The wa
ter and sewer system revenue es
tablished for the past year should
be very effective in attracting
most favorable bids on revenue
bonds for financing the local
share of total project cost.”
Mr. Ball estimates that the to
tal water and sewage system im
provements will cost in the neigh
borhood of $1.3 million with al
most $600,000 to be included in
a federal grant.
