Military Ceremony Unites
Rebecca Eyre Edwards
And John Allen Moore
In a beautiful military service
Miss Rebecca Eyre Edwards,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julian
Jennings Edwards of Rich
mond, Virginia, became the
bride of Cadet John Allen
Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Elton Moore, Novem
ber eighteenth at eight o’clock
at the First Baptist Church,
Jackson, Georgia. The
Reverend Donald Folsom per
formed the double ring cere
mony.
The altar was decorated with
fern balls and seven branched
candelabras. Family pews were
marked with white satin fluff
bows.
Lieutenant Peter Rodgers
and Cadet Larry Plunkett
lighted the tapers.
Miss Sara Sears, harpist, of
Atlanta, presented a program of
music, “A Time For Us”, theme
from Love Story, and “The
Lord’s Prayer.” Mrs. John
Lowell Garr, organist, rendered
the processional and reces
sional Wedding March.
GIVEN IN marriage by her
father, the lovely bride wore a
formal gown of embroidered
organza pandora with high neck
and long fitted sleeves. A large
bow was attached to the center
back of the bodice with the full
gathered skirt falling in a
chapel length train. Her
finger-tip length mantilla veil
was edged with alencon lace
accented with seed pearls. She
carried a nosegay of white
sweetheart roses centered with
a white orchid and two stems of
white rosebuds which were
presented to the mothers of the
bride and groom.
Mrs. Floyd Kamiel Maertene
of Indianapolis, Indiana, sister
of the bride, was matron of
honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs.
James Henry Norton of Atlanta
and Miss Julienne Beauchamp
of East Point. Miss Tiffany
Webb of Mableton, niece of the
groom, was flower girl. They
wore identical floor length
gowns in shades of green and
blue floral print. The jacket
styles were empire with fitted
bodice, short sleeves and pearl
buttons from the front neck to
the waistline. They carried
nosegays of yellow pompoms.
MR. MOORE was his son’s
best man. Groomsmen were

Cadet Larry Plunkett of
Chickamauga and Cadet Jim
Scapin of College Park.
Cadets Dennis Carter, Grant
Matherly, Tom Palmer, Jim
Stone, Larry Sapp, David
Previtt, David Hugenin,
Richard Woznicki and Duane
Wright, members of Scabbard
and Blade of North Georgia
College, formed the Sabre Arch
for the bride and groom to exit
upon leaving the altar. The
groom and his attendants were
in full military dress.
The bride’s mother chose a
long dress of eggshell blue
taffeta with large roses, a
brown velvet belt and rose
accessories.
Mrs. Moore wore a mint
green chiffon with matching
accessories. Both mothers’
corsages were white orchids.
GRANDMOTHER OF the
bride, Mrs. Kirby Edwards of
Hawkinsville, chose a rose knit
suit with matching accessories
and a cymbidium orchid
corsage.
Following the wedding cere
mony Mr. and Mrs. Edwards
were hosts at a reception at the
Jackson Clubhouse.
The bride’s book table,
covered with a madeira linen
cloth, was kept by Mrs. Gerald
Webb, sister of the groom. A
bridal candle, plume and
bride’s book graced the table.
The refreshment tables were
overlaid with floor length
madeira linen featuring the
punch bowls of lime punch and
trays of assorted mints and
nuts. These tables held five
branched silver candelabras
with pale yellow candles on
each side of arrangements of
pale yellow mums, snap
dragons, stock and greenery.
THE BRIDE’S table held the
four-tiered wedding cake de
corated in clusters of white
roses, love birds and was topped
with a large wedding bell. Mrs.
Thomas Von Kameche and Miss
Martha Ruth Chew, cousin of
the bride, served the cake.
Punch tables were presided
over by Mrs. Larry Plunkett,
Miss Sherry Harwell, Miss
Rebecca Tate and Miss Myra
Wright. Assisting in greeting
guests were Mrs. Winnie Moore,
Mrs. Tom Peek, and Mrs.
Pierce Kemp Mason.
For going away the bride
wore a beige and navy dress
with navy accessories. She wore
the white orchid lifted from her
nosegay.
After a short wedding trip to
Gatlinburg, Tennessee and
other points in that state the
newlyweds are living in
Dahlonega where they are
students at North Georgia
College.
Rehearsal
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Moore
entertained November 17th at
the Jackson Clubhouse with a
dinner honoring the wedding
party and out of town guests
prior to the rehearsal at the
First Baptist Church. Following
the dinner, to which fifty guests
were invited, the groom
presented gifts to his fiancee,
groomsmen, and Dr. Jo Ann
Manley, who directed the
wedding rehearsal.
Tea Shower
Mrs. Lovett Fletcher and
Mrs. Ben Haisten honored Miss

Edwards with a tea-shower at
the lovely country “Dogwood
Knoll” of the Fletchers on
November Bth from seven thirty
to nine thirty. Assisting were
Miss Amelia Fletcher, Mrs. Ben
Garland, Mrs. Robert Pinck
ney, and Mrs. Ralph Carr. Mrs.
Roy Prosser presided at the
serving table which was
overlaid with an imported Irish
linen cloth. Elaborate green
satin bows were arranged on
the table’s end. An arrange
ment of white chrysanthemums
with five branched silver
candelabras graced each side.
Party punch, mints, nuts,
cheese straws, nutty fingers
and sugar strawberries were
served. Mrs. Van Fletcher also
assisted in entertaining the
guests. The honoree was
recipient of many lovely gifts.
Luncheon
Mrs. Gerald Webb of Mable
ton gave the bridesmaid’s
luncheon November 18th at
Holiday Inn, Locust Grove. The
table arrangement was a low
oblong container of yellow
snapdragons, carnations and
small chrysanthemums. The
original place cards were
drawn and printed by Gerald
Wayne Webb, husband of the
hostess. A delicious salad
course with an assortment of
crackers and tangerine sherbet
was served. Miss Edwards
chose this occasion to present
silver bracelets to her attend
ants.
A lingerie shower was given
by Mrs. Phyllis Strange and
Miss Cheryl Carroll in Rich
mond, Va., Wednesday after
noon, November Ist.
Mrs. Thomas Von Kameche
and Miss Myra Wright hosted a
miscellaneous shower the even
ing of November 9th in Lewis
Annex at North Georgia
College, Dahlonega, for the
bride-elect.
MARY MICHELE BARABAS
WAS BAPTIZED SUNDAY
Little Mary Michele Barabas,
four month old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Barabas, was
baptized at an impressive nine
o’clock mass Sunday, Decem
ber 3rd, at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church. Father Jim Kelly
officiated with the infant’s
sponsors being Mr. and Mrs.
Larry Deraney.
Michele wore a long white
christening gown imported
from Spain. The dress featured
a Victorian neckline trimmed in
lace with an embroidered yoke
and puff sleeves trimmed in
lace and an embroidered flower
design running down the front of
the dress. She wore a pure gold
bracelet which was a gift from
her great grandmother, Mrs. A.
P. Flanagan of Athens.
Attending the service, in
addition to her parents and
brother, Chip, were her grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E.
Flanagan of Macon and a
great-aunt, Mrs. Clyde Hol
comb and Mr. Holcomb of
Athens.
MRS. TRAYLOR RECEIVES
HER MASTERS DEGREE
Friends of Mrs. James L.
Traylor of Smyrna will be
interested to know that she will
receive the Master of Arts
Degree in the teaching of
English from Georgia State
University December 10th. Mrs.
Traylor is employed by the
Cobb County School System as
Chairman of the English
Department at Campbell High
School, Smyrna.
Mrs. Traylor is the former
Janice Ballenger, daughter of
Mrs. Mildred Ballenger of
Jackson.

HELD NOVEMBER
MEET IN BARNESVILLE
A program on music featured
the November 16 meeting of
Upsilon Chapter, Delta Kappa
Gamma (honorary society for
women educators), held at the
Crescent House in Barnesville,
with members from Butts and
Pike Counties acting as host
esses.
A business meeting preceded
the program and lunch. Miss
Susie Blanton, President, pre
sided. Hie program chairman,
Mrs. Nora Ball, of Jackson,
presented Miss Julia Searcy,
who arranged the musical
numbers. Miss Betty Vecsey, of
Barnesville, introduced the
program with a brief talk
concerning what different great
musicians had to say about the
topic. She quoted from John
Erskine, “Music is the only
language in which you cannot
say a mean or sarcastic word.”
A quartette consisting of
Betty Vecsey (Barnesville),
Mrs. Mary Kinney (Barnes
ville), Miss Julia Searcy
(Forsyth), and Mrs. Martha
Elliott (Barnesville), accom
panied at the organ by Miss
Thelma Brisendine (Griffin),
led the group in eight tuneful
songs from the Delta Kappa
Gamma Song book.
At the conclusion of the
program, the Chapter enjoyed a
delightful luncheon. Mrs. Thel
ma Davis (Griffin) gave the
invocation.

transferred Friday from Sylvan
Grove Hospital to Westbury
Medical Care Home in Jenkins
burg.
Mrs. Cathye B. Johnson and
son, Chris, are visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E.
Blue until December 17th when
she will embark for Spain to
spend Christmas with her
husband, Tommy, who is
presently on cruise ship U.S.S.
Intrepid. While overseas Mrs.
Johnson will visit Italy and
France before returning to
Jackson for a visit with her
parents after which she and
Chris will return to Jackson
ville, Florida.

29th at Jasper Memorial
Hospital in Monticello. Mrs.
Colbert is the former Carol Jean
Chrisley of Jackson.
Jenkinsburg Garden Club
Had Thanksgiving Dinner
Members of the Jenkinsburg
Garden Club and their families
were entertained at a Thanks
giving dinner Tuesday evening,
November 14th, at 6:30 o’clock.
Approximately 40 guests as
sembled at the Jenkinsburg
Clubhouse and enjoyed fellow
ship with one another.
The clubhouse was decorated
with lovely chrysanthemums
and other fall flowers. The
tables, which were beautifully
decorated with flowers carrying
out the holiday season of fall,
were laden with delicious foods.
The turkey, dressing and all
the trimmings were provided by
the hostesses: Mrs. Joyce
Harris, Mrs. Jo Whitaker and
Mrs. Nita Mixon. Each member
assisted by bringing vegetables,
salads, pies and beverages. Mr.
Thomas Sims offered a Thanks
giving prayer before the dinner.
Those present expressed their
enjoyment of the happy
occasion and look forward to
many more Thanksgiving gath
