Some of the students entered the creative writing contest sponsored by the Henry Z. Walck, Inc., publishers of children’s books. They were judged on the best original story to accompany pictures in the book, “What Whiskers Did,” by Ruth Carroll. Each third year classroom selected a first, second and third place. Those winning first were Teena Hunter, Mary Tilley, Sharon Dowdy, Dana Nash, Veronica Conley, Tim Rutledge, Lisha Holloman, Angela Bell. Second place winners were Bobbie Collier, Debbie Bray, Carol Wyatt, Audrey Battle, Mark Potts, Tracy Williams, Cindy Cammon, Lindy Burford. Terri Treadwell, Jewell Green, Alicia Kersey, Sylvia Ann Jefferson, Andy Hudgins, Jeffery Barnes and Lamar White placed third. Overall winners for third grade were first, Dana Nash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wade Nash, who received a copy of the book, “What Whiskers Did”, second, Lisha Holloman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Holloman, and third Audrey Battle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Battle. FIREBALL 4-H CLUB WANTS USEABLE TOYS The Fireball 4-H Club will have an empty box available in order that useable toys can be donated and given to the Salvation Army or the Jaycees to be distributed where needed. Anthony of Conyers spent last Friday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Anthony, and was a dinner guest. Friends of David Nye of Elizabethtown, N. C. regret to learn of his death at his home on November 26th from a heart attack. Mr. Nye lived in Jackson for about a year and a half several years ago when as a partner in the firm of Singletary and Nye Construc tion Cos., he erected several buildings on the Jackson Industrial Park as well as two buildings in the city itself. Funeral plans were not known but many Jackson residents will regret to learn of the death of this estimable young man. Miss Ethel Smith and Miss Katherine Smith attended the wedding of Mr. Dan Tingle of McDonough and Miss Janet Graham of Teamon at the Teamon Baptist Church last Saturday.
