Of Town
BY BRENDA WILLIAMSON
Rev. Reynolds Green, pastor
of the First United Methodist
Church in Dalton, brought a
timely and thought provoking
message Wednesday night at
the county wide Union service
at the Jackson United Metho
dist Church. The service was
held to kick off the Key 73
evangelistic campaign in Jack
son and Butts County. The
theme for this outreach is
“Calling our Continent to
Christ” and will join persons of
all faiths together in a united
effort to spread the Gospel and
carry the message of Christ
into every home.... The
bright sunshine last week
startled many persons after so
much rain and other bad
weather that has prevailed
over the last few weeks. The
thermometer warmed up a
considerable degrees and
persons took to the outdoors for
the first time in many weeks
.... The art of parachute
jumping is fast growing in
popularity and doubly so here
in Butts County. Spectators
enjoy watching both men and
women jump at the Greene
County Sport’s Center just off
County Line Road and a large
number gather at the jumping
site every weekend to watch.
Those who participate do it as a
form of relaxation and as a
hobby and many state there is
nothing like the exhilarating
thrill of parachuting from an
airplane in the sky. Sandra T.
Butterworth, a longtime friend
first mentioned the sport’s
center to me on the New Year’s
weekend but stated she hadn’t
yet got up enough nerve to try
the parachute jumping. Now
Sandra is a “try anything
once” person so I expect most
any time to hear of her trying
her wings at the popular
pasttime of many people for in
all the years of our friendship
there hasn’t been too many
5 things she hasn’t-'at- teas* 1 ?
? attempted to do. The center is'''
often-sfeven days a week from ;
dawn to dusk and those
interested are invited to come
out and either watch or
participate in the parachute
jumping. The instructors en
courage spectators and firmly
state that a policy of the sport’s
center is that no alcoholic
beverages are allowed on the
premises with abusive lan
guage also discouraged....
The inauguration of President
Richard M. Nixon into his
second term as president of the
United States was watched by
millions of persons Saturday.
Television was there with bells
on from the first event of the
day right on through the
inaugural ball which concluded
the day’s festivities. Mrs.
Nixon participated in the
impressive ceremony by hold
ing the Bibles which were used
in the swearing in. The
temperature in the 40’s kept
people on the move in an effort
to keep warm but sympathy
was extended by the newsmen
to those uniformed men who
serve our country that were at
attention during the procession
of the president.
Boys In Service
Lt. Lindsey Powell is
spending the week at home
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
M. L. Powell.
Lt. Powell will report to
Fairchild AFB in Washington
State this Sunday for a two
week land survival training
period before leaving for a
year’s duty in Taiwan where he
will pilot a C-130.
IN APPRECIATION
With humble hearts and
grateful appreciation we desire
to take this method to thank
our many friends and neigh
bors who were so nice during
the illness and at the death of
our beloved sister, Polly
Burnside. The many cards,
calls, trays of food, floral
offerings, your many prayers
and all other acts of kindness
meant much during our sorrow
and we shall be forever
grateful. May God bless each
of you. - Mr. and Mrs. Morris
Williams.
