Prayer and Peace at Mind
Isaiah 26:3
Many times during my
ministry I have been away
from my family late at night
trying to help others pick up
the pieces at their life and
begin anew. Each night I
always look into the faces of
my two boys and see if all is
well. I always find them sound
asleep, perfectly relaxed, com
pletely at peace. I wonder why
the people I’ve seen during the
day are not like this. Once we
did have that peace but as we
grow older our lives become
more complicated.
Most people are thinking of
the living we have to make, the
debts we owe, of what will
happen to us in our old age. We
worry about the world situa
tion, we get crossed up with
people, we think about the
wrongs we have committed, we
are afraid for our health.
Gradually the peace of our
minds is drained away and
gone. “Whose mind is stayed,”
said the prophet, is the way to
perfect peace.
First, we need to learn to
empty our minds. Peace
ca nnot come as long as we hold
certain things in our minds.
When we come in at night we
wash our hands, sending the
days accumulation of dirt down
the drain. Wouldn’t it be
wonderful if our minds could be
washed in this way?
After Rabbi Liebman wrote
his book, Peace of Mind, he
was swamped with people
seeking peace. His mail was
heavy, his telephone rang
constantly, people were con
stantly bothering him. He was
a young man, only thirty eight,
but because of his great love
and concern for people, he fell
under the burden in three years
a nd died a t the age of forty one.
His dying statement was, “I
am appalled at the Multitudes
of people who have never
learned to empty their minds.”
Most of us bring our worries
home with us every night and
trouble our families. There is
no sleep. We just haven’t
learned the one sure way to
find peace of mind. Instead of
brooding and worrying people
need to learn to leave a great
part of their worries with God.
Study these words carefully:
What a Friend we have in
Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
0 what peace we often forfeit
0 what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry,
Everything to God in Prayer!
Jesus said, “Men ought
always to pray and not to
faint.” This is the secret of

God’s people really agonize in
prayer, peace comes. This is a
lasting peace, so sweet that
words cannot describe. If your
