Many varied comments have
been made and heard regard
ing the change in postal service
in Butts County. Nearly
everyone is in agreement as to
the lousy service the postal
service provides but local
residents are in a turmoil over
having their mail route
changed. J. M. Washington
commented last week when he
notified us of his new mailing
address that “1 remember
when they put me on Route 2.1
was just a little feller and I’m
75 years old now. I’ve been on
Route 2 a long, long time.”
Other such comments have
been made by residents who
have long ago settled into the
familiar pattern of a certain
route. It’s hard to teach an old
dog new tricks. Looking on the
other side of the coin, post
office employees are heard
complaining about the addi
tional work load and extra
hours needed to complete their
job. So it’s just one continuous
merry-go-round with rising
costs and expenses with no
readily apparent improvement
inservice .... Mrs. Robert W.
Grier, Sr. of Indian Springs is
instantly liked by those who
come in contact with her and is
well known in this section for
her love for dogs and cats.
Sunday, March llth, she
became known in another way.
She was seated in her recliner
at her home and in some
manner caught the first finger
on her right hand near the
chair’s bottom. The first joint
of her finger was severed off
and upon discovering it she
remarked to her houseguest
and husband “Hon, find my
finger for me.” By nature Mrs.
Grier is a fun loving person and
is known for her joke making.
Because of this her guests and
husband thought she was
kidding and sat laughing at
her. This caused her to quip
“Well I’ll find it myself,”
which she did. She was rushed
to Sylvan Grove Hospital and
on to Griffin to the hospital but
the doctor was unable to save
her finger. Mrs Grier re
marked Monday morning that
“I’m going to quit playing
jokes.” .... The Red Cross
Bloodmobile will be here in
another few weeks and I trust
you have made up your mind to
give a pint of blood. The April
2nd visit will have a quota of
138 pints and according to John
Billy Long, Blood Recruitment
chairman, it is urgent that
citizens join hands and unite in
an all out effort to reach the
goal and perhaps even surpass
any amount previously reach
ed in our county before. The
indifference of people has been
a source of concern to
bloodmobile workers and it is
hoped that the Spring season
will spur people on to donate
blood at the Armory during the
hours of 1-5:30 p.m The
professional services of Dr.
William Mitchell had never
been used by our family until
last week when we carried
Queenie, our Boxer, to him for
surgery. His knowledge and
professional service came
through with shining colors in
handling the excited and
nervous Queenie. She’s home
now and none the worse for
wear.... The problem of
uncontrolled dumping along
side country roads is once
again becoming popular. It
appears that some uncon
cerned people are using these
roads as their own private
dumping ground, not caring
that people live on these roads
and have homes and yards
which they strive to keep neat
and orderly. It is a disgrace to
the society in which we live and
laws regarding unlawful dump
ing should be strictly enforced
so that we as citizens would not
have to view this garbage as
we drive to and from our
homes. The pollution problem
has not been in the news as
much lately as it once was but
it is still a problem and one we
must not put aside and ignore.
Stand up and let people know
you are against this unsightly
dumping and other irresponsi
ble practices. The time is now!
