Lightning
Strikes
Biles Home
Lightning in mid-March is
about as rare as snow in
August, especially when it was
as heavy as that experienced
Sunday night, March ‘ 11th,
during a thunderstorm that
dumped several inches of rain
across an already well satur
ated Butts County.
This lightning struck the
home of L. C. Biles on
Fincherville Road Sunday
night about 9:30 o’clock,
running in on the kitchen sink
and also damaged the stove,
hot water heater and dish
washer.
Mr. Biles said that the
lightning damage was con
servatively estimated at SSOO
MAXWELL HOUSE INSTANT
COFFEE
(Limit One) 12 Oz. Bonus Pack
and that members of his family
and neighbors put out the fire.
The fire ruined the cabinets
and sink with considerable
smoke damage over the whole
house, with the blaze and water
ruining the carpets, especially
in the hall and kitchen. The
back porch floor was damaged
heavily by the blaze.
Mr. Biles said that the only
thing saving the house was the
gas pipe under the house
caught fire and burs ted which
caused the plastic water pipes
to melt sending a flood of water
both in the house and under the
house. He estimated that there
was probably two or more
inches of water and that it was
quite a problem sweeping the
water out. The Biles home is a
six room house plus two
upstairs bedrooms and two
large porches.
Mr. Biles expressed appreci
ation to friends and neighbors
for their help.
