Mann, to David Prentice
Ridgeway, Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. David Prentice Ridge
way, Sr. of Jackson Georgia.
Miss Mann is the grand
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Hall Culverhouse,
Jr. of Knoxville, Georgia, and
Mrs. Frank Rambo Mann, Sr.,
and the late Doctor Mann, Sr.,
a beloved physician in Telfair
County for fifty years.
Mr. Ridgeway is the grand
son of Mrs. Augustus P.
Churchwell and the late Mr.
Churchwell of Macon, and the
late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
Prentice Ridgeway of Jackson.
Mr. Ridgeway attended
Abraham Baldwin College and
the University of Georgia,
Specialist 5 in the National
Guard, and is a dairyman in
Jackson.
The bride-elect attended
Georgia College, is a graduate
from the Atlanta College of
Medical and Dental Assistants,
member-elect of AMT, and is
presently employed with the
Sylvan Grove Hospital in
Jackson.
The wedding is planned for
eleven o’clock, Saturday, July
28th, in the Mcßae United
Methodist Church, College
Street, Mcßae, Georgia. All
friends and relatives are
invited.

Family Reunion will be an

May 23rd at 7:30 o’clock in the
evening at the home of Rev. T.
J. Thaxton. The ceremony was
performed by Rev. Thaxton in
the presence of friends.
The bride is the daughter erf
Mr. and Mrs. E. James of
Jackson.
Mr. Grant’s parents are Mr.
and Mrs. H. Grant of
McDonough.
The couple will make their
home in Jackson.

J. D. BANKSTON, SR.
UPON HER RETIREMENT
Mrs. J. D. Bankston, Sr., was
honored by the faculty and
staff of Henderson Junior High
School at a party in the school
library on May 28th.
Mrs. Bankston is retiring this
year after teaching for 35
years, 29 of them in Butts
County. Originally from Jas
per, Georgia, she has one son,
J. D. Bankston, Jr., who
resides in Brunswick, and a
thirteen-year-old grandson,
Donnie Bankston, 111.
Mrs. Bankston is planning to
enjoy her retirement by doing
a lot of traveling with her
husband, who is also retired.
She is a member of Macedonia
Church.

PERFORMED ON MAY 22nd
The marriage of Carolyn
Marie Price and James
Mayhue was performed May
22nd at the home of Rev. T. J.
Thaxton, who officiated in the
presence of friends.
The bride’s parents are Mr.
and Mrs. J. E. Crumbley of
Flippen.
Mr. Mayhue is the son of
Mrs. Nellie Mayhue of Locust
Grove.
The couple will make their
home at Jenkinsburg.
Cherokee Garden Club Plants
Marigolds Around Monument
The Cherokee Garden Club
has done it again! Marigolds
have been planted around the
monument on the Courthouse
Square to beautify this spot
again.
Many remarks were made
regarding the flowers planted
last year and some thought
they were the prettiest yet.

Sponsor Tour Of Famed
Carmichael House June 28
Members of the Jackson
Garden Chib, organized in
April 1925, will sponsor a tour
of the J. R. Carmichael house
on McDonough Road on
Thursday, June 28th, during
the hours of 3-6 o’clock and
from 7-9 o’clock. Admission
will be J 1.50 per person with
proceeds earmarked for the
Garden Club Council.
The Jackson Garden Club
was organized at the home of
Mrs. G. D. Head and was the
outgrowth from a “sewing
chib” which was organized in
1920.
Five charter members are
still living and active and these
include Mrs. G. D. (Julia)
Head, Mrs. J. B. (Margaret)
Harrison, Mrs. E. S. (Ruth)’

were dinner guests Saturday
night, May 25th, of Larry
Wilson in Decatur.

their guests for a visit of
several days Mr. Lueken’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Lueken, of Helena, Arkansas.

Macon is visiting several days
this week with his grand

Adams.
Mrs. Donald Gray spent
several days last week in
Fayetteville with her grand
children, Phil, Warren, Mar
garet and John, while their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Gray were away on a trip.

The Jackson Garden Chib
was the first garden club
organized in Butts County.
Mrs. Head said this week that
the chib hopes to celebrate its
golden anniversary in 1975 and
is looking forward to the event
with keen anticipation.
The historic and widely
knojwn Carmichael House was
restored last year by its
present owners, Mr. and Mrs.
J. R. Carmichael, of Atlanta
and Jackson. A history and
many photographs of the
widely known house will be
used in a later edition of the
Progress-Argus.
Friends of Mrs. Brae K.
Hodges, Sr. are delighted to
learn she returned home
Monday of last week from
Coliseum Park Hospital in
Macon where she was hospital
ized with a broken hip. She is
resting comfortably at her
home, friends are glad to know.
Miss Peggy Evans arrived
Friday to spend the summer
months with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Evans. She has
just completed her Freshman
year at Georgia Southern
College in Statesboro.

WORTHVILLE JUNE 10
The families and relatives of
George W. and Lucy Matt
Weaver White will hold their
annual reunion Sunday, June
10th, at the Masonic Hall at
Worthville. A basket lunch will
be spread at noon.
Those attending are asked to
remember the crafts, hobby
and handwork display of old
and new articles. A special
table for handmade Christmas
gifts and bazaar items will be
featured this year.
