Patty O’Neal and Wilmer Greer
Patty O'Neal Honored
By The Exchange Club
Patty O’Neal, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James T. O’Neal
of Route 1, Jackson, was
honored by being chosen as the
Outstanding Young Girl of the
Month for May by the Jackson
Exchange Club. The presenta
tion was made by Wilmer
Greer, Exchange Club presi
dent.
Patty is 16-years-old and a
Sophomore at Jackson High
School. She is in her sixth year
of 4-H club work and according
to Miss Rachel Torrance, Butts
Home Economist, is a “willihg
and dependable worker and a
pleasure to be around.”
Patty is a member of the
sqaure dance club and has
accompanied the club to the
Southeastern Fair for compe
tition the past three years. She
was selected toattend the State
Dog School for two years and
serves as junior leader for the
local dog care and training
club. She was co-chairman of
the recent county wide 4-H
Rabies Clinic and worked
extensively on the Red Cross
Blood Drive. Miss Torrance
said that Patty’s main project
in 4-H has been Home
improvement and Sewing and

more representative of the JHS
Student Council, publicity
chairman of Tri Sigma Chi, a
member of the Honor Society
and a player on the JHS Tennis
team. She has maintained an A
average and scored in the top
percentile on the NED test.
She is an active member of
the Stark United Methodist
Church where she currently
serves as president of the
United Methodist Youth Fel
lowship.

WINNER OF DEAN TATE
SOPHOMORE AWARD
Miss Ellen Pinckney, daugh
ter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert
Pinckney of Jackson, has been
named recipient of the Dean
Tate Outstanding Sophomore
Woman Award at the Uni
versity of Georgia. This award
has been presented annually
since 1961 by Alpha Xi Delta. It
was presented at the annual Z
Night program. The Z Club is
for outstanding freshmen wo
men. Ellen served as president
of the Z Club for the 1972-73
school year.

Griffin Federal To Open
Branch Office in Jackson
Griffin Federal’s Executive
Vice President Bill Ramsey
Tuesday announced plans to
open a branch office in
Jackson. A definite location
has not been selected, but
several sites are under
consideration. Future plans
will be announced soon.
Griffin Federal Savings &
Loan Association received its
charter from the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board,
Washington, D. C., in Novem
ber 1960. In the short twelve
year history of the association
assets have grown to over
$18,000,000. Savings are in
excess of $15,000,000. and over
2,400 first mortgage loans have
been made during this time.
Ramsey states that he is
looking forward to opening an
office in Jackson which will
provide the citizens in the
Jacksonand Butts County area
withall of the full time services
of a savings and loan
association. Those in the area
who presently have loans and
savings accounts with Griffin
Federal will be able to handle
all transactions in the Jackson
office.

Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Brooks
are spending this week in
North Little Rock, Arkansas
visiting his brother, Ernest
Brocks, and Mrs. Brooks.
Friends of Mrs. Jewell T.
Johnson will be interested to
learn she underwent open
heart surgery Wednesday,
May 30th, at Emory Hospital in
Atlanta after being admitted
there on Monday. She was
reported to be doing nicely
Thursday.
Mrs. Lon Hadwin, Lonnie,
Cami and Tami are spending
almost two weeks in St.
Petersburg, Fla. and Pinellas
Park, Fla. visiting her grand
mother, Mrs. E. M. Mam, and
her parents, Rev. and Mrs.
Herbert Nesseth.

Little Fred Caldwell of
Monticello spent the weekend
of May 25th with his grand
mother, Mrs. W. F. Caldwell,
while his sister and brother,
Dianne and Mike, visited their
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Lambert, in Colum
bus. While there Mike and
Dianne toured Disney World
near Orlando, Fla. and visited
Daytona Beach.

Rodney, of Stockbridge, visited
Monday with members of the

Friends of Mrs. Lynda Jean
(Howell) Barnes and son, Ken
Barnes, 10, of Locust Grove
regret to learn that they were
seriously injured in the
collision of two cars Saturday
afternoon, May 26th, in which
two persons were killed. The
accident occurred some 7.5
miles east of Griffin on the
Locust Grove Road. Killed in
the head-on crash were
Timothy G. Davis, 20, and Ted
Benjamin Babb, 8, of Route 1,
Locust Grove. Mrs. Barnes
was traveling south when the
cars collided. It is believed that
Mr. Davis and the Babb child
apparently died instantly of
massive injuries. A passenger
in the Barnes car, Joe Drake,
received minor cuts. Mrs.
Barnes is the daughter-in-law
of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Barnes of
Locust Grove. Friends will be
interested to learn that Ken
Barnes returned home from
South Fulton Hospital last
week and his mother was
expected to return home
during the weekend. It is
expected thatboth Mrs. Barnes
and her young son will undergo
plastic surgery in the future.
Mrs. Barnes received a
crushed kneecap in one leg
while tendons were severed in
the other leg. Both legs have
been placed in casts but both
she and Ken are reported to be
doing nicely.

Elliott were Saturday night
supper guests of Mr. and Mrs.
B. O. Williamson.

at Second Baptist Church. Mrs.
Spain was her sister’s Matron
of Honor.
