Devotional
By R. W. Jenkins, Pastor
Macedonia Baptist Church
The apostle Paul said “Let
this mind be in you, which was
also in Christ Jesus” (Phil.
2:5). A true Christian earnestly
seeks to be like his Master. To
know the mind of Christ and to
walk in His Will is the greatest
of our achievements on earth.
What was the mind of Christ?
Christ had a mind to be born.
This was his act of being
humble. “He was made in the
likeness of men; and being
found in fashion as a man, He
humbled himself" (Phil 2:7-8).
We, too, must humble our
selves and be born anew taking
upon us the place of a servant,
letting the light of our Master
shine through our lives lifting
our fellowman along our way.
Christ had a mind to make
His identity known. He was
baptised by John in the River
Jordan, thus identifying him
self with God’s people and
God’s movement.
You cannot be a secret
disciple of Jesus, you must
make known your love for Him.
Christ was constantly telling
His followers to go tell others
what he had done for them.
Jesus said that if you deny
Him, He will deny you. (Matt.
10:32-33).
He also had a mind to
overcome worldly temptations.
We see him resisting Satan’s
efforts in His wilderness
experience. (Matt. 4:1-11).
Jesus set the example for us
to do even as He did. But, what
is more He gives us the power
to overcome. He promises us
that He will never leave us or
forsake us (Heb. 13:5). He also
makes us more than conquer
ors through Him that loved us
(Rom. 8:37).
Christ had a mind to be
obedient to the will of His’
Father. He agonized in the
garden of Gethsemane and
came to the point where he
said, “not my will but thine be
done” (Matt. 26:39). No other
commitment will satisfy our
God. He can only use those in
his service who obey Him.
Finally, Jesus had a mind to
love a lost world. He looked
upon Jerusalem and wept over
it (Matt. 23:37). He looked on a
sinful world and wept over it
(Heb. s:7).Hewenttothe cross
to prove His love for us and to
make a sacrifice for our sins.
Yes, He loved us and saved us
and He has put His love within
us so that we may love others
and bring them to Him.
Let this mind be in you.

IN MEMORIAL
In Memory of Mr. and Mrs.
D. W. Singley: In the midst of
the noise and clatter of a busy,
hectic world, it is wonderful to
experience the love of dedicat
ed Christian parents. They
prayed for us that our faith
might grow, for God’s strength
to sustain us, and for courage
to accept the things we could
not change. They showed us
what .God was like.
Today, our lives have
purpose and meaning because
of their guidance and trust. We
will be eternally grateful, and
to their memory, we dedicate
these thoughts on the anniver
saries of their deaths, August
27,1972 and September 16,1972,
respectively. Mr. and Mrs.
Ezra Hayes and family; Mr.
and Mrs. Lamar English and
