United Appeal
Also Helps
Red Cross
From the United Appeal
budget, the largest allocation is
made to the Butts County
chapter of the American Ifed
Cross.
“One of the most active
pursuits of the Red Cross is the
Bloodmobile,” Mrs. Imogerle
Leverette said.
“When a person of Butts
County is involved in an
accident and needs a blood
transfusion,’’ she continued,
“the resources for our com
munity are used.”
This year the blood program
was a complete success due to
the cooperation and assistance
provided by members of the
4-H Club, Mrs. Leverette
stated.
Another sum of money
budgeted to the Red Cross goes
to maintaining communication
between Butts County and its
persons in the military or
government service.
“We are frequently called
upon to contact a local service
man who is stationed overseas v
Mrs. Leverette said.
“Without the help of the
United Appeal,” she con
cluded, “many of our services
would have to be suspended or
cancelled completely. We
really need and appreciate all
the help we can get from the
community.”

Oratory Of
Jack Little
Stirs Club
In a stirring report, Jack
Little, a Kiwanian of only a few
weeks, gave a challenging
address to the Jackson Kiwanis
Club Tuesday night, Septem
ber 18th, based on his
attendance and observation of
the Georgia Kiwanis Confer
ence held the week before at
Savannah.
In a ringing assertion, Mr.
Little emphasized that local
Kiwanians “can make our club
what you want it to be” and
drew applause when he stated
that “Jackson is a good place
in which to live and a good
place to work and my family
and I enjoy being here.”
After reciting several hu
morous ancedotes heard at the
conference Mr. Little, a gifted
and facile speaker, warmed to
his task by stating that
Kiwanians need to apply
ourselves daily to problems at
hand and reminded that it is
difficult to do something about
current problems rather than
becoming a part of the
problem. The speaker stressed
that the Kiwanis Club of
Jackson will be as “strong as
we make it,” and urged
members to work together in
cooperating in making the
local club's 1973-74 year one of
notable achievement.
Two Key Club members,
Billy Duke and Johnny Morris,
were visitors.
President David Black made
his swan song Tuesday night
with Y. C. Hudson installed as
president for the new Kiwanis
year.
ERRANT CAR BASHES
HANDY ANDY WINDOW
Mrs. Herschel Leverrett was
parked in her car at the front of
Handy Andy on Friday
afternoon waiting for her
daughter. Teri. to make a
purchase.
In some inexplicable way,
Mrs. Leverrett inadvertently
touched the gas pedal of the
idling car causing it to mount
the curb and penetrate through
a plate glass window, also
damaging an automatic pop
corn machine in the process.
Bill Jones, an owner of the
convenience store, said that
damage to the building was
estimated at some SSOO.
Mrs. Leverrett was unin
jured and the damage to her
car was minor.
