There is a magical quality
about homecoming that evokes
old memories and renewed
spirit in the hearts of alumni at
all levels of education, and
such will be the case Friday
when students at Jackson High
School go all out to make their
homecoming activities a mem
orable occasion.
Quite naturally the home
coming game between winless
Manchester, they are currently
0-4, and Jackson with a slightly
better mark of 1-3, is the piece
de resistance of homecoming’s
numerous affairs, but other
acitivities dear to a student
body’s heart are scheduled
prior to and after the game.
Homecoming is coordinated
by the Jackson High Student
Council with the cheerleaders
contributing a lion’s share of
the actual work and planning.
Three events have already
been held and these include
Tennis Shoe Day on Monday;
Pitch Fork Hunt on Tuesday
and Jersey Day on Wednesday.
Prizes in these contests, some
of which combine the ridicu
lous with the sublime, will be
awarded at the Pep Rally
Friday.
At noon on Thursday a Pep
Rally is scheduled for the Little
League Field with spirit sticks
to be awarded with this event
sth Ranked Eagles
Pound Devils 39-12
The fifth ranked Putnam
County Eagles lived up to their
high rating and pounded
Jackson 39-12 Friday night on
Red Devil Hill in Jackson’s
second home game of the 73
season. In the four games to
date Jackson holds a victory
over Henry County and has
registered losses to Rockdale
County, Mary Persons and
Putnam County. The Eagles
are undefeated.
On the third play of the game
Jackson fumbled with the
Eagles recovering on the Red
Devil’s six yard line. On fourth
down Major Pennamon burst
two yards over center into the
end zone for the first score with
Tod Swymer adding the
seventh point on a kick. The
tally came with 10:59 on the
clock.
Later in the second period
Andy Crumbley punted to
Casey Reid on the Putnam
County 28. The speedy and
elusive back cut to his left
behind good blocking, reached
the side line and raced 72 yards
for the second score with 5:57
remaining. Swymer’s conver
sion attempt was wide.
Later in the first quarter
following a fumble recovery on
the Putnam County eight yard
line Andy Crumbley bucked up
from one yard out with 24
seconds remaining. The con
version attempt failed and at
the end of the first period
Putnam County led 13-6.
Early in the second period
Frederick Reid lofted a 58 yard
touchdown strike to Elmo
Dunn that made the score 21-6
after Pennamon added the
extra point on a run. This tally
came with 11:51 remaining in
the second quarter.
With 1:27 remaining in the
half Audie Farley raced into
the end zone from five yards
out with Swymer’s kick wide.

Three events on Friday,

The parade will get under
way Friday afternoon at
approximately four o’clock
around the square in Jackson
with nine floats, six decorated
cars, two trucks and four bands
including Jackson’s own
marching Red Devil band, to
take part in the parade.
During halftime of the game
the Queen of Homecoming will
be crowned. She will be

The halftime score was
Putnam County 27, Jackson 6:
The Eagles added another
score in the third quarter when
Frederick Reid passed 14
yards to Audie Farley with 3:53
remaining. The conversion
attempt was no good and at this
juncture Putnam County led
33-6.
In the fourth quarter with
11:23 on the clock Major
Pennamon ran in from four
yards out for the last Eagle
score. The conversion was
wide.
Late in the fourth quarter
Ricky Smith scored on a seven
yard run and after the PAT
attempt failed the final score of
39-12 was posted.
Statistics were reasonably
equal, Jackson registering
eight first downs to ten for the
Eagles. Jackson ran a total of
50 plays for 141 net yards as
compared to 56 for the visitors
with a net of 269 yards.
One of the decisive factors in
the game was four turn overs
by the Red Devils, coming on
two fumbles lost and two
passes intercepted.
On defense Dale White gave
a truly remarkable perform
ance, making 14 individual
tackles and seven assists.
Jimmy Clemons had eight and
Darrell Summers had seven
individual tackles respectively
for two fine defensive perform
ances.

Coach Wade’s Critique
I expected to win the ball game but our
performance was the worst of the year.
Our offensive blocking was a very poor part of
the game.
The kicking game was terrible. That was the
first T. D. scored by a punt return in two years.
Dale White played an outstanding defensive
game, making 14 individual tackles. Darrell
Summers also made a good defensive game making 8
individual tackles.
We were disappointed in the play of some of our
defensive backs.
Andy Crumbley did another good job punting,
averaging 39 yards.
As the Red Devils stand 1-3, we can look back
and see that all the teams we lost to are still
undefeated.
Ricky Smith looked good running the ball on the '
last drive.
Jackson will play the first region game Friday
night. Manchester is 0-1 in region play.
The indication of Friday night’s performance is -
that there will probably be a couple of new faces in ,
the line-up.
