BRENDA WILLIAMSON;
What is believed to be a first
in Henry County are the
perfect triplets born to Mr. and
Mrs. Butch Bowen at Clayton
General Hospital. The 15-year
old mother and 23-year-old
father were unaware that their
anticipated arrival would be
any thing other than one baby
until exactly one week prior
when doctors determined that
Mrs. Bowen would bear three
children, all boys, according to
a story in The Weekly-Adver
tiser. The Henry County
residents have been recipients
of many offers of aid and gifts
from their friends and neigh
bors and according to the three
boys’ grandmother, “the
people of Henry County are the
greatest.” One often reads
about multiple births in other
states and faraway places but
such an occurrence this close is
a rarity and we congratulate
the proud parents and grand
parents .... In a sadder vein
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grier, Sr.
of Indian Springs had the sad
duty recently to have their two
Dachshunds, Ginger and Fritz,
put to sleep. The two dogs lived
a life of royalty at the Grier
home and accompanied them
on out of town visits. Mrs.
Grier said the dogs had visited
14 states during their 12 year
spanof lifeandwereas mucha
part of the family as any
human member. Ginger and
Fritz have been buried in the
Grier’s back yard where they
often hunted moles and other
ground animals for play ....
Cupid has been busy of late and
isn’t waiting for the month of
June to aim and hit her chosen
target for the love bug. The
papers of late have been filled
with engagement announce
ments and wedding write-ups
giving proof that Cupid has not
been idle .... Local citizens
were glad to note las t week tha t
Euel Wade has returned to his
duties on the Jackson Police
Force after an absence of
several weeks. Mr. Wade was
hospitalized in an Atlanta
hospital and underwent sur
gery and for the past 30 days or
so has been convalescing at his
Brookwood Avenue home ....
We have neglected to mention
the Confederate Monument
and how nice it looks this year
with the tiny marigolds and red
salvia blooming in profusion at
its base. The flowers have been
particularly noticeable since
the Tourist Information Booth
has been torn down but there is
only a trace of the marigolds
leftaftera successful “bloom
ing” season .... The fair is in
full swing this week with a good
attendance having already
been to view the horticultural
and otherfeatures of the yearly
event. The flower show opens
today and those interested in
flowers have made plans to
attend .... With Christmas
‘just around the corner”
merchants have already begun
to pull out gift wrapping paper
and other Yule paraphernalia
hoping to entice shoppers to get
the “spirit” early and pur
chase their gifts before the last
minute rush. It’s hard though
for many to get in the shopping
mood when the temperatures
range in the 80 degree mark.
Hudson
Challenges
Kiwanians
Y. C. Hudson, newly installed
president of the Jackson
Kiwanis Club, told members
Tuesday night that the projects
of the club offered many
opportunities for service and
urged all committee chairmen
and members to be alert and
viligantso that the club locally
might live up to its motto of
“We Build”.
In a brief but challenging
message, Pres. Hudson spoke
again on the importance of
committees in Kiwanis work
and emphasized that commit
tee goals should be achieved
and that reports on activities
should be turned in to the club
secretary on time.
Larry Fletcher was intro
duced as anew member who
was to be inducted on October
9th. Tom Webb, Jackson
postmaster, was a visitor.
