• “In everything God works
for good,” says the scripture,
“with those who love him, who
are called according to His
purpose.” The truth of this
grea t promise of God is
proclaimed every time some
one sings, “Come, Thou Fount
of Ev’ry Blessing,” for that
hymn began with the prophecy
of a drunken gypsy fortune
teller.
Robert Robinson had gone to
see the gypsy because he was
bored. At nineteen years of age
he was through with schooling
and had completed a five-year
apprenticeship to master the
barber’s trade. He was his own
man, responsible to no one,
fully able to care for himself.
But he was bored with life. He
had no purpose, no goal, no
reason to live, not enough faith
to die.
So he bought another round
of drinks for himself and the
gypsy and leaned back to hear
his fortune being told. “Young
man,” said the gypsy as she
gazed groggily into her crystal
ball. “You will live to see your
grandchildren.” “Yes,”
thought Robert Robinson.
“And my grandchildren will
regard my life as useless.”
The gypsy’s words were still
ringing in his ears months later
when in December, 1754, he
stopped at an open-air revival
to hear evangelist George
Whitefield warn his congrega
tion of “the wrath to come.” At
that meeting Robert Robinson
found a reason to live and a
God to serve. He entered the
ministry, and was only
twenty -three years old when he
wrote this hymn-just four
years after God used a drunken
fortune teller to set him
thinking:
Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry
blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy
grace;
Streams of mercy, never
ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest
praise:
Teach me some melodious
sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues
above;
Praise the mount-I’m fixed
upon it~
Mount of Thy redeeming
love.

Most dogs have all their
permanent teeth by the time
they are six months old.
Normally - if they eat a well
balanced diet - they will have
no real trouble with their teeth
until they are older.
Among the most common
canine tooth problems are pits,
discoloration, worn enamel,
breaks and tartar.
Though they are not harmful
in small amounts, large
accumulations of tartar can
lead to dental trouble like
recession of gums and bacter
ial infection. The infection, in
turn, could lead to heart
trouble or arthritis.
Thus, an effort should be
made to remove the tartar.
You ca n try to do it yourself by
washing your dog’s teeth witha
piece of cotton dipped in a
solution of table salt.
If you are unwilling or unable
(unless he had been trained
from birth a dog may not want
to si t s till for a tooth cleaning),
see you veterinarian. Your
veterinarian will probably
administer an anesthetic and
then polish your dog’s teeth
until they gleam like a
toothpaste advertisement.
Asfor pits orstains that have
developed because of illness,
there is little that you can do.
Distemper, for example, can
permanently stain or pit teeth
-even if the attack was so mild
it was not even recognized at
the time.
There is also little tha t can be
done about worn teeth except
try to convince your pet that
his mouth is nota pair of pliers.
But broken teeth are another
matter. If your pet cracks a
tooth, see your veterinarian
immediately; often, the tooth
can be saved.
And if salvage is impossible,
then the tooth should probably
be extracted before it causes
infection and great pain.
Another dog dental problem
is bad breath. Bad mouth odor
may mean a tooth problem - in
which case a good cleaning is
called for. Or it may be an
indication of a digestive
ailment, in which case the odor
is really originating in the
stomach.
One way to help avoid tartar
and bad breath is to encourage
your dog to gnaw on a hard

biscuit or a very hard bone. Be
sure the bone is hard; if it isn’t
it can cause more harm than
good.
In checking you dog’s mouth,
you may notice a tumor. If you
see any growth or if your dog
has difficulty eating, have your
veterinarian check your dog’s
mouth.
Gum tumors should also not
be neglected. They can become
easily irritated. Many common
gum tumors can be removed
by your veterinarian.
One question often asked erf
veterinarians is, “Do dogs get
cavities?”
The answer is that dogs are
not usually troubled by cavities
of the kind that afflict people.
As with people, however, a
good diet plays a key role in
determining dental health. The
proper nutritional balance
should be maintained at every
meal.
IN APPRECIATION
We shall be eternally
grateful to each of our friends
and relatives who have been so
thoughtful and considerate to
us during the past several
weeks. We were not aware
there were so many wonderful
people in Butts County and
surrounding areas and that we
had so many friends. Your
words and letters of encourage
ment, your beautiful cards, the
flowers and most of all, your
prayers, have been a source of
strengthand encouragement to
us. To those people who have
given of their time and energy
in raising money for the
medical fund and sponsoring
the fund raising events in
Mike’s name,and to those who
have given monetary gifts, we
express our heartfelt grati
tude.
We would like to write each
of you personally, but there are
so many who have done things
that this would be an
impassible task. We can
thankfully say some improve
ment is slowly being seen in
Mike’s condition and we still
covet each of your prayers for
his recovery.
Again, thank you for all you
have done. -- Family of Mike
Barnes.

It all depends on whether or not you are a lobster-lover. To those who
enjoy this succulent fruit of the sea, a lobster is a thing of beauty. To others
it seems incredibly ugly.
Beauty is “in the eye of the beholder,” but, contrary to another old
saying, it is not skin deep. True beauty often can’t be seen at all. It is
something you feel, something of which you are aware —not necessarily
seen.
Beauty, for instance, surrounds you when you walk into a church. There
is something in the atmosphere that you can’t quite define. No matter what’s
been happening to you, in God’s Home, you feel a sense of peace, of sanc
tuary.
Had that experience lately?
