The Red Cross Bloodmobile
will make its November visit at
the National Guard Armory on
November sth and it is
anticipated by Blood Recruit
ment Chairman John Billy
Long that the quota will be met
and exceeded. Mr. Long states
that the winter season is fast
approaching and that the
county needs to have a good
surplus of blood on hand. With
three major holidays yet to be
observed Mr. Long feels that
concerned citizens will do their
best to see that the county is
more than covered should
tragic accidents befall this
area during these holiday
periods .... The leaves are
turning their beautiful autumn
hues of gold, red and other
beautiful colors and God’s
hand is quite evident to those
who are able to view the
fantastic mountains of North
Georgia, Tennessee and South
Carolina. Those who have
made leaf tours returned with
many descriptions of the
gorgeous vari-hued mountains.
Trees right here in our own
county are turning a blanket of
many colors and are being
admired by those who are
unable to get away for a long
weekend to the mountain
areas.... I would like to
invite you to attend special
Rally Day services Sunday at
the Jackson Church of the
Nazarene at which time special
singing will be enjoyed during
the worship hour followed by
an old fashioned “dinner on the
ground.” During the afternoon
members and friends will
gather again in the church for
an afternoon sing with several
singing groups from Butts and
neighboring counties on hand
as guests. Rev. Lon Hadwin,
pastor, as well as the entire
church membership extends a
cordial invitation to all
members, former members
and pastors and friends to
attend all or any part of the
day’s activities.... Well
folks, it’s that time of year
again. Tax notices from the
office of the Tax Commissioner
went into the mail last week as
is customary for this time of
year. Mayor Robert F. Mackey
announces that city tax notices
are expected to go into the mail
around the first of November,
the city rate having been cut
five mills. Mrs. Mary Will
Hearn, Tax Commissioner,
urges citizens to get their taxes
paid early even though the
deadline is not until December.
The earlier they are paid the
better, she states, and citizens
can avoid the last minute rush
and having to stand in line for
long period of time .... Only
one week and one day remains
for the ambitious deer hunter.
Saturday morning, November
3rd, in the early hours before
dawn’s early light many
hunters will climb out of their
warm beds, outfit themselves
in several layers of warm
clothing, arm themselves with
their favorite deer gun and
take to the woods for several
hours of silent waiting. Many
deer have already met their
death during the bow and
arrow season but it is
anticipated that many more
will be killed during the month
of November and the latter
part of December when
hunters will again enjoy about
ten days of hunting.
