Next Thursday will be a quiet
day of Thanksgiving for most
homes in Butts County as
families will gather for an
annual Thanksgiving dinner of
turkey, dressing and all its
trimmings. Citizens every
where will pause amid a busy
day to thank God for the many
bountiful blessings He has
bestowed upon them. Christian
friends and relatives will
gather Wednesday evening for
the annual Union Thanksgiving
Service at Macedonia Baptist
Church at 7:30 o’clock. Rev.
Lon Hadwin, pastor of the
Jackson Church of the Naza
rene, will bring the Thanks
giving message with the choir
of Macedonia to bring musical
selections appropriate to
Thanksgiving. Citizens of all
faiths are invited and a large
number of persons are ex
pected to be present . . . .
Homemakers in this area are
urged to get their orders in
early for the second edition of
the Sylvan Grove Hospital
Auxiliary cookbook. The popu
lar book is expected to be
purchased by many as gifts for
Christmas while others may
get the books for their personal
use. Persons desirous of the
book may contact Mrs.
Maurine Shields .... Butts
County is saddened over the
loss of one of its finest citizens
last Thursday morning at
Sylvan Grove Hospital. Law
rence Morgan succumbed to an
eternal sleep only after a long,
hard struggle against the odds
and fought a battle creditable
to anyone. A fine Christian
man, Mr. Morgan was active in
all phases of Butts County
activities and will be sorely
missed. Sincere sympathy is
extended to members of the
Morgan family .... The citi
zens of Butts County are
extremely glad to learn of the
plans of Holcombe Armature
Cos. of Atlanta to locate in
Jackson and erect a building to
rebuild automotive armatures
for generators and starters and
related component parts.
Many Jackson dignitaries were
on hand Friday, November
2nd, for the ground breaking
ceremony at property located
just outside of Jackson. The
plant will provide jobs for some
20-25 people when com
pleted .... If one chooses to
listen closely to the prognasti
cators and the early warnings
Americans for the most part
will be in for a long, cold
winter. The expected shortages
in heating oil, gas and
electricity is causing concern
in most areas of our nation and
plans are being made to curtail
an over abundant use of these
items. Butts countians are
hoping for a relatively mild
winter but our northern
neighbors cannot hope for such
since many states have
already experienced several
inches of snow. Those persons
who are accustomed to being
warm and toasty at a
temperature of some 80-85
degrees will experience some
discomfort if President Nixon’s
plans to lower the thermostat
some 10-15 degrees is put into
effect. In his address to the
nation last Wednesday evening
the president outlined steps he
desires to undertake in order
that Americans might have
enough of these items to last
through the winter months.
Two Injured
In Thursday
Accident
The Rev. Donald Gray, 61,
pastor of the Jackson United
Methodist Church, suffered
face and leg lacerations in an
accident Thursday morning
near Jenkinsburg on State
Route 42.
A passenger in his car, Larry
Wilson, 27, also of Jackson,
suffered a broken nose and
facial lacerations.
Troopers of the Griffin State
Patrol Post said Mr. Gray lost
control of his compact car
while attempting to avoid
hitting a vehicle which had
turned in front of him. His auto
skidded into a ditch and hit a
culvert.
The two men were treated at
Sylvan Grove Hospital in
Jackson.
