Lovely Bridal Tea
Feted Emily Carr
Initiating a series of
pre-nuptial parties for Miss
Emily Carr, recent bride,
who became Mrs. Jed Jinks
on June Bth, was a tea hosted
by Dr. Jo Ann Manley at her
Covington Street home on
Saturday, May 11th.
Guests were greeted by the
hostess, attired in a princess
style, full length dress of pink
dotted Swiss with pink and
white floral designs. The
guest of honor was beautiful
in a formal gown of pink
summer sheer complement
ed by a white orchid.
Receiving with the bride
elect were her mother, Mrs.
Ralph W. Carr, Jr., wearing
a floor length model with
gold an€ red designs on a
green background, and Mrs.
Eslyn Jinks, mother of the
groom-elect, wearing an
aqua knit dress with white
accessories. Both mothers
wore corsages of white
carnations.
Miss Kibbie Carr, wearing
a full length dress of summer
cotton in shades of red and
blue, kept the bride’s book.
Miss Myra Manley, attired in
an antebellum dress of white
batiste and lace, invited
guests into the dining room
for refreshments of petit
fours, toasted nuts, mints
and pink punch chilled with
strawberry ice rings and
served from a silver punch
bowl garlanded at the base
with ivy. The table was
covered with a white linen
cloth overlaid with pink net

the table and held in place
with clusters of pink sweet
heart roses. The center piece
was an elongated arrange
ment of mixed spring
flowers, carrying out the
color scheme of pink and
white, and topped with large
white wedding bells. Silver
candle holders placed at
either end of the table held
burning pink tapers. Miss
Molly Manley served as
hostess in the dining room
and was assisted by Mrs.
Sherry Thaxton, Mrs. Kent
Tabb, Mrs. Paul Johnson,
and Mrs. Larry Fletcher,
who alternated in serving
between the hours of two and
four. All those who assisted
in entertaining wore full
length dresses of summer
cottons, complemented by
corsages of white daisies.
A large floral arrangement
in pink and white centered
the coffee table in the living
room. Special guests, who
were present for the entire
party, were Mrs. Emma
White, Mrs. Lee Glaze and
Mrs. Hugh Mallet, grand
mothers of the prospective
bride and groom. Among the
one hundred and fifty invited
guests, those from out of
town who attended included
Mrs. W. M. Johnston and
Gage, Mrs. V. G. Johnston,
and Mrs. Bill Smith, all of
Atlanta; Mrs. David Cook of
Morrow, and Mrs. Sam
Smith of Monticello.

(Randy) Long, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John D. Long of
Flovilla.
Miss Cleveland is the
granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Cleveland, Sr. of Locust
Grove and the late Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Maynard, Sr. of
Decatur.
She is a graduate of Henry
County Senior High School
where she was a member of
the yearbook staff, a repre
sentative of the student
council, and a student aide at
McDonough Primary School.
She is a member of County
Line Baptist Church, Jen
kinsburg.
Mr. Long is the grandson of
Mrs. D. T. Long and the late
Mr. D. T. Long of Flovilla
and Mrs. Grace Britt and Mr.
Pete McClendon of Griffin.
He is a graduate of Jackson
Senior High School and is
employed at bowman Trans
portation of Atlanta. He is a
member of the Flovilla
Baptist Church.
The wedding will be at
County Line Baptist Church
on June 29th, 1974 at 3:30
p.m. No formal invitations
are being sent, but all friends
and relatives are invited to
attend. There will be a
reception afterwards.
8 O’clock in the evening at
which time they will observe
their 49th birthday with a
party.
Since this will be the last
meeting until September, all
members are invited to be
present.

Mr. Lewis C. Grant of
Jackson announces the forth
coming marriage of his
daughter, Ann Harmon
Grant, to P. F. C. Carey
Roam Biles, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Maurice Biles of
Jackson.
Miss Grant is the daughter
of Lewis C. Grant and the
late Mrs. Anne Lora Jones
Grant.
Mr. Biles is the grandson of
Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Thomas
and Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Biles,
both of Jackson.
Miss Grant is the grand
daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Jones of Jackson
and the late Mr. and Mrs.
Doyle Grant of Jackson.
Mr. Biles is presently in the
Marine Corps.
The wedding will be
Saturday, June 29th, at the
Macedonia Baptist Church
with the Rev. R. W. Jenkins
officiating at 8:00 o’clock in
the evening.
All friends and relatives
are invited to attend.
JACK MANGHAM GETS
20-YR. EASTERN PIN
Jack W. Mangham, Mc-
Donough, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Otis Mangham of Jackson,
received his 20-year pin from
Eastern Airlines on June
10th.
Mr. Mangham is in
Eastern’s Department of
Production. The award was
presented at a recent
luncheon. Present to honor
Mr. Mangham were his
manager, Mr. William
Perry, of Miami, and his
superintendent, Mr. Ralph
Evans.
Mr. and Mrs. Mangham
left by plane Sunday for a
trip to Mexico City and
Acapulco and on their return
will visit with Mr. and Mrs.
Jerry Lyles and Scott in
Coral Gables, Florida.

CLUB MET AT HOME

The Jenkinsburg Garden
Club met at the home of Mrs.
Charles Fletcher on June
11th with fifteen members
present.
Mrs. Carolyn Cook spoke
on the many blessings we
derive each day in life and
read the beatitudes from
Matt. 5:3-12.
A short business session
ensued with the president,
Mrs. Joyce Harris, in charge.
The program chairman, Mrs.
Majorie Sims, let each
member give a verbal
account of what they had
accomplished in the way of
gardening and community
activities since the May
meeting. This program prov
ed very interesting.
On Tuesday night, June
18th, at 7:00 p.m., members
of the club and their families
met at the Jenkinsburg Club
House and brought covered
dishes. Each person paid
$1.50 for the dinner.
At the social period, the
members were invited into
the dining room for delicious
refreshments consisting of
sandwiches, nuts, corn chips,
cream dips, congealed fruit
salad, cake and punch. The
hostess, Mrs. B. R. Hay, was
assisted by Mrs. Fletcher.
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our
appreciation to the many
relatives, friends, churches
and Sunday School classes
that visited us in the hospital,
sent cards, flowers and gifts,
and helped out in other ways
after Mattie Lou fell and
broke her hip on May 15. We
want to especially thank all
who prayed for her. for we
give God the praise for the
rapid healing of her hip and
for dissolving the blood clots
in the lung, which necessi
tated her return to the
hospital. -- Clifford and

Council in Clayton County
and is also on the Board of
Directors of the Association
of Children with Learning
Disabilities.
This summer she is
attending Georgia State in
Atlanta and is working on her
6th years specialist degree in
Elementary School Counsel
ing.

OBSERVES ITS
59TH REUNION
On Wednesday, June 12th,
the class of 1915 met at
Tomlins Restaurant to ob
serve the 59th anniversary of
their graduation from Jack
son High School.
Seven members, Marlin
Spencer, Avon Gaston, Annie
Ried Harper Gaston, Rosa
Thompson Minter, Eva
Knowles Johnson, Bessie
Compton Dozier and Gladys
Kimbell Wilson were pre
sent. The class was pleased
the have Helen Spencer and
John O. Minter as guests.
Although the class has had
several projects in the past,
scholarships and furnishing a
hospital room, the get
togethers now are for
fellowship and fun.
