Contest
Local youngsters awaiting
the 14th annual Punt, Pass
and Kick season will soon be
sharpening their punting,
passing and kicking skills.
PP&K registration begins
September 23rd.
The program, which is
co-sponsored by the National
Football League and the
Ford Dealers of America,
has registered more than ten
million youngsters over the
past thirteen years mak
ing it the largest youth
activity of its kind in
America. This season, PP&K
expects to attract more than
1,200,000 registrants.

guests Sunday evening, her

attended the evening service

Janet Washington, a stud
ent nurse at Georgia Baptist
Hospital in Atlanta, is
spending a few days with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A.
Washington.

111. The baby was born
September 16th in Birming
ham, Alabama. Mrs. C. M.

Clay’s great-grandmother.
Mrs. Nellie Cochran had as
weekend guests her brother,
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Faulk
ner of Warner Robins.
Joining the group for dinner
on Sunday were Mrs. Edna

Mrs. Nellie Cochran re
turned home Friday from
Flovilla where she spent a
week at the home of her
granddaughter, Mr. and Mrs.
David Burford and Carin.
Mrs. Cochran took care of
Carin while Mrs. Burford
was in a Macon hospital for
surgery. Mrs. Burford is now
home and we wish her a
speedy recovery.

spent Saturday night with
their sister, Mr. and Mrs. L.
H. Duke.

To Have
Yard Sale
The Women’s Missionary
Society at Rock Springs
Church will hold a Country
Yard Sale on Saturday,
September 28th, from 10 a.m.
to 6 p.m. at T. O. (Jack)
Bell’s Store on the Griffin-
High Falls Road.
Items for sale include used
furniture, appliances, pic
tures, dishes, clothing, toys
and books. Cakes, pies,
crafts and house plants will
also be on sale.
Proceeds will go to support
Florence Tingle, missionary
to Mexico.
We are sorry to report that
Mrs. Claudia Washington
was readmitted to Middle
Georgia Hospital in Macon,
Friday for treatment. Clau
dia is paralyzed again from
the waist down and we are all
praying for her to have a
quick and complete recov
ery.

visited her sister, Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Wilkerson of the
Stark Community Sunday
afternoon.

Heart Attack
Claims Mrs.
C. E. Rooks Sr.
Mrs. Maggie Tommie
Bowden Rooks, 77, of Route
1, Flovilla, was dead on
arrival at Sylvan Grove
Hospital Sunday morning
about 10 o’clock, apparently
the victim of a massive heart
attack suffered at her home.
Mrs. Rooks was born on
July 11, 1897, the daughter of
the late Mr. Robert T.
Bowden and the late Mrs.
Cynthia Hickman Bowden.
For a long number of
years, Mrs. Rooks, the wife
of Mr. Charles E. Rooks. Sr.,
made her home in Washing
ton, Ga. until moving to Butts
County some time ago.
For several years, she and
her husband served as
caretakers of the Indian
Springs Holiness Camp
Ground near Flovilla. Mrs.
Rooks was a member of the
Jackson United Methodist
Church.
Funeral services were
conducted Tuesday morning
at 11 o’clock from the new
chapel of Sherrell’s Funeral
Home with the Rev. Phil
DeMore, pastor of the
Jackson United Methodist
Church, officiating. Inter
ment was in the Jackson City
Cemetery.
